Total noobie in Boston...
Hello from Boston. I was at the mall a couple of weeks ago, and "The Art of Shaving" store caught my eye... probably because it is one of few stores not marketed for teenage girls. I wandered in. First I saw the safety razors which I haven't seen in decades, and I don't know if I've ever seen a straight razor in person. I was drawn to them immediately. As soon as I got home I went online to learn more. I found this forum, and ordered Lynn's DVD.
I've taken a piecemeal approach so far: a used razor from the classified section, a coticule from a member's store, a strop from eBay, and a badger brush and TI razor from the store at the mall. (With a "Black Friday" $25 off coupon I couldn't pass it up.) Some orders are still in the mail, and some are in hand. Oh, I also picked up a styptic pencil. ...not that I'll need it! (Yes, famous last words.)
Thanks to all for the shared wisdom posted on this site. It will obviously take some time to dial in the honing, stropping, and shaving technique, and that's fine. Wish me luck!
