Hello from Michigan

Hello to everyone

I'm new to SRP, but looking forward to my first straight razor shave.

I've been wet shaving with a DE for 6 years and am ready to take the next step to straight razor shaving. I've been reading up on this site for several weeks and have gained a lot of good information. I just ordered my first straight the other day - 6/8 tortoise Dovo special and hope to begin shaving with it within the month. I still need to order a strop and would like to get fairly sufficient on it before beginning to shave with the straight. I know everyone has their favorite type of strop based on personal experience, but was wondering if a specific type of leather is easier to learn with? I'd also be interested in any tips to help me acquire good stropping skills. My budget is very flexible.

I appreciate any help and advice you can give.

Irish, McB & SirStrop are telling you right. If you can get w/ other & more experienced users, you'll thank yourself. Another thread this week asked what you'd change if you could go through the learning/noob phase again. Getting w/ other users was in my top 3 things I'd do differently.
