G'day from Oz
Hi,
My son got me into D/E shaving last Fathers day and now I am hooked.
I currently use S/E razors on my head and face and look forward to progressing to the straights.
A lady I work with gave me 8 straight razors that her dad used as a barber in the town where I live.
I have been looking and reading as I want to restore them and get them ready to be used.
I have started on one as a tester and so far I am happy with how it is going.
Here is a picture of what I got.
Cheers,
Lynchy

Gidday Lynchy and welcome to SRP from a QLD'er.
You are very lucky to receive 8 razors to start your journey into straight razor shaving. I recommend you have them professionally sharpened to "shave ready" by a reputable honemeister. Check out the lists on this site.

Thanked: 6Hey Lynchy, welcome to SRP. That's a nice way to start off your STR8 experience. As Sunbird mentioned, get them honed by a pro and leave that until you get more experienced shaving with them. Learn one thing at a time, it will pay off in the end mate.

Thanked: 1072Welcome to SRP mate.
Nice haul you have there, now you can get addicted to restoration as well as straight shaving.

Thanks Guys,
I really enjoy cleaning and polishing old S/E and D/E razors so learning how to restore the straights will just add to that.
My plan was to always send them off to be honed until I get a lot more experience but eventually I would love to learn that side of it as well.
Cheers,
Lynchy

Thanked: 1587Welcome to SRP!
That looks like a very decent batch of razors there, congratulations! And in my experience people just don't give away their grandfather's razors to people they don't think will respect and care for them, so I have a feeling you'll fit in very well here.
There's lots of information here about restoration, so make sure you look around and ask questions. And who knows? When the time comes, you might even want to give honing them a crack yourself.
Good luck!
