Good evening and greetings from Brisbane!!

Hello and good evening from a not-so-sunny Brisbane, Queensland, Australia! May I just say to all and sundry that, as a relative novice to the fine art of straight shaving, it is a pleasure to see people from around the globe being more than helpful and embracing newcomers with open arms in such a well organised and informative forum. While I had been 'taught' about straight razor shaving by my grandfather some 23 years ago, I opted for the 'fast-food' variety, mass produced and disposable monstrosities flooding the marketplace today. I always wondered why I was nursing an almost constant razor burn and looked at shaving as a most unpleasant chore or avoided it entirely! After digging up my grandfathers old Ford and Medley 'ARROW' razor, I set about cleaning up and sharpening the old beauty. For an old and oft' neglected razor with an ever-so-slightly frowning blade, she cleaned up a treat! From my first shave with this razor after honing it (although what I'd consider ok and other would I've since learned is vastly different!!) I was a changed man! The straight razor bug has bitten and bitten hard :)! I couldn't have even thought where to start cleaning this razor without visiting the SRP site so I am indebted not just for tips on a razor, but for helping restore a much loved and very sentimental heirloom... While the arrow is of limited serviceability due to age/wear, I'm now in the process of attempting to clean up a few nice little razors I've bought from here and there to shaving ready. Now I am pleased to say that my daily shave is a highly anticipated ritual. And the tools and paraphernalia - don't get me started!! I am literally a kid in a candy shop...

Welcome to the forum. I know exactly what you mean by turning the dreaded morning shave into an anticipated pleasure of a ritual. Hope you are managing to keep dry with all that rain you guys have been getting.

G'day Hankus, about bloody time we got another Brisbanite here, the place is starting to be over-run by Kiwi's and Melbournians :). Where in Bris-Vegas are you mate? We have members North and South that are always ready and willing to lend a hand, or just willing to drool over other peoples razors, which really isn't a very hygienic thing to do when you think about it, but never the less, they will if you don't watch the buggers. So you've been warned :D.

Hi mick! Mate I'm on south side but dreaming of heading back to the lofty shores northern bayside end one day :)!! I noticed on a post of yours some while ago you have a giesen razor or two and you're quite happy with them - just picked one up myself though I think it might need some TLC before I can get a nice shave. It's their Bismarck model and I can't wait to use it... But yeah, nice to know theres others (read:born/bred ;)) from brissy on here too! Its great to be aboard! And I'll keep the drool thing in mind too... Might pay to keep some detol wipes handy!! Though I think most of it would be from me!!

LOL yeah - living here is just as good in my book! Been abroad once or twice but once this lil town gets in your blood it's hard to leave for good!

That's sounds fantastic and thanks so much for the great welcome! Redbank isn't far from me at all really - I'm just over at Oxley. I'd love to get your opinion on the Bismark for sure - my girlfriend bought it for me as a gift and she thinks she did a bad job because I haven't used it yet!! I explained it to her but I don't wanna discourage her from getting me razors/shaving products as she was eyeing off a Hart Steel #45 (at least I think it's that model - the all black one) :) for my birthday coming up!!! But any info you guys are happy to share will be gladly lapped up!! I just finished making some scales to replace some broken ones on an old Joseph Elliott's straight. Should be nice once I get it all together - just got to form a wedge and deciding whether to pin, micro bolt or use knife fasteners... The scales are a quilted maple i think and almost amber in colour so it should be an attractive little piece in the end finders x'd!! Love to get your opinion on it when I'm done if you don't mind???

I will do! It'd be great to meet some of the blokes on here in Brisbane for sure! I'm up in Townsville for work on Monday - seriously can't wait to get out of this rain for a few days!!! Was in Maryborough last weekend and got stuck there for a few extra days when all the roads got cut - hasn't stopped since :( forgot what the sun looks like!!!
