    Cool Greetings from Alabama!

    Hello Straight Razor Place!
I am just starting on my straight razor journey with a Parker SR1 and the VH kit from a local drugstore. I just did my first shave yesterday and loved almost everything about it. It was a much more satisfying experience that with my Gillette. I managed to shave nick-free my first time (only with the grain for the most part) which I attribute entirely to all the excellent information and links found on this forum so thank you for that.

About me: 31 years old about halfway through a PhD program at the University of Alabama (not an obsessive fan, but I do enjoy college football in general). I have been happily married for just shy of ten years and am currently fighting an up-hill battle on getting the wife on board with this little adventure. To use her words, she just does not "get it" but I am sure I will when her over with a few ultra-close shaves once I get up across and against the grain shaving

    Welcome to SRP!
sometimes the wife is the last one to convert. once your shaves start getting FSS she will come around to the idea. you might also want to consider a DE razor for her it will help her have a better understanding for your needs... plus many soaps and cream appeal to woman as well so you can buy more for yourself.... lavender, rose and almond are among SWMBO favorite scents so I have several examples of each for her enjoyment, or so I claim

    enjoy,
    jim

    Syslight,
Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions for convincing the wife. I will keep a DE in mind for her but I will have to do quite a bit of research and thinking about how to pitch that idea to her without it sounding like the shaving equivalent of buying a bowling ball or something equally cliche` for "her to use." But I think I may be able to get her on board with using a brush and soap/cream rather than a canned foam since her family used that when she was a kid.
