My name is Ralph and I write from Calgary Alberta Canada ‘eh!
First of all I gotta say,….this site is an incredible source of information!
I decided some time ago that I was eventually going the way of the straight razor and finally decided it is time to get serious and do something about it.
My plan is to move from disposables to safety razor then to straight.
I spent the entire week end reading/studying and making notes mainly from this web site to get a perspective on the direction I need to take.
Then I checked out Kijiji and found a local seller that may have exactly what I’m looking for.
This is his advertisement…….
- Plisson Badger brush that has been re-glued to the handle with epoxy
- Merkur adjustable double edge razor, used a few months before switching to vintage Gillette
- 90 odd Astra DE blades
- Walkin' Horse Strop, strop and Linen paste. This is a 3" strop which makes things much easier as a beginner
- Belgian Coticule for sharpening.
- Alum block for inevitable cuts with first few uses
Everything except the DE razor and the brush was purchased from the Superior Shave as a kit for about $200 plus shipping and duty. It's in very good condition. The Merkur retails for about $55. All together I estimate that this is over $300 worth of equipment. I have lots of other odds and ends like sample shaving cream and a handful of sample blades which I'll throw in also. A great way to get started with wet shaving.
I’m planning to buy unless directed otherwise,… I look forward to any and all advice?
Thanks in advance and looking forward to chatting in the future.
Ralph
