Fix it up or leave it alone?

I 'd like to solicit a few opinions on this.--------I just bought this today for $35.00 with the intent to clean it up and use it and "reupholster" the case just for the fun of it. My logic is that the case is in such bad condition and the handle has the hairline crack up by the head, that it couldn't really hurt any value, BUT the potential is still there to make a really nice set for my own benefit, if not for resale. However, once "BRASSO'ED", it can't be undone. WHAT WOULD YOU DO?Attachment 136972 Attachment 136973 Attachment 136974

Yup, sounds just like what I would have done too.

Those handles are known to split like that. It still works fine. I had a Gilette like that, also in a nice box, I fixed up and gave it to a buddy of mine. Cleaned the razor and removed all the green goo, changed the yucky interior in the box as well. Great shaver.

How did you redo the box? What fabric did you use?

Well, first let me say I am not a fabrics restorer, my goal was to make it clean, inviting and appetizing in hope it would see regular use..

First I tried cleaning the fabric with some stain remover and fabric cleaner. In my case, that did not give the neccesary improvement. I then proceeded to carefully remove the fabric and all glue remains, and then adding a new piece of fabric. I can't quite recall what kind of fabric I used, but I think it was a nice thick felt. I recall felling a little bad because the logo would be irrevokalbly lost - on the other hand, I could not see anyone enjoy using it in the shape it was.

It did turn out rather nicely, if I may say so myself.

Oh, and the exterior of the box; cleaned and buffed, that's all
