Alum Block

Hey guys, I have an Alum block that I use that doesn't really work. I quickly wet it under the tap then wipe it on my face, I can feel it "doing it's stuff", but it doesn't actually stop any bleeding. Is there something I have to do in order for it to work properly or is it just a dud block. It is a Shavex alum block.

I would recommend getting a syptic stick for small cuts. I use my alum block as a antiseptic. It closes the pores.

Maybe your nicks are too big for the topical alum block. I have one that does the trick for small nicks 95% of the time. Do you have a rough beard or uneven skin thus contributing to larger nicks? As another mentioned, maybe a styptic pencil might be a better alternative in your case?

The alum block's primary job is not stopping bleeding nicks,,,you need a styptic stick as advised above. I use the Shavex alum block on every shave,,,love it & it does it's job well.

you really have to rub an alum block alot to stop bleeding and in that case it may be no different than just rubbing your finger over it keeping pressure ,, but yea keep a styptic pencil for the cuts tc

As others have said, alum is for very small nicks, not larger ones. Styptic pencils/matches/liquid will serve you much better for those.

Alum powder on a wet q-tip will stop bleeding almost always. Find it in the spice rack at the grocery store.
