I know what this is but need help with what it 'could' be.. Thinking outside the box!

This is a Hanger (Coat, Strop, etc) that I picked up just cause I thought it was cool looking... I don't believe it is old and fairly sure it has been artificially aged... But, it has a cool look.

I am nearing the completion of my Shave Den after working on it for the better part of this year and so now starting to work out the details of Paint and Décor. My question on this item is...

"What else could this be used for or as?"

I could put it up on the door and use it for a Strop Hanger but I want to make sure to explore as many possibilities as I can. There is just an amazing amount of creativity on this Site so I figured I'd do a Shout Out for help.

So, what do you think you would or could use this for in a Shave Den?

Thanks in advance for any and all Replies... Even the silly and comedic ones sometimes give me that, "A-Ha", moment where I can come up with something cool.

Im not saying it is old or its not old because I don't have it in hand but what makes you think its not old? What does the back side look like. It looks like cast iron. If thats the case and it were me, I would clean the rust off and then season it like an old cast iron pan where it gets that shiny black gloss all over and won't rust. It definitely looks cool. If you plan on using it in the shave den then a strop hanger it would make. That would definitely be cool in a barbershop though. Maybe now you can open one up haha.

What are the demensions?

You could have some sort of wood rack sitting on / hanging from the hooks and use that as a brush stand?

It's not strictly my idea, as the basic concept comes from another member's answer to a brush stand thread (can't seem to place it) but looping a string about the base of your brushes, you can use this as a cool brush hanger, so that they're properly stored head down and yet do not take up shelf space..

+1 for a place to hang your strop........and umbrella and top hat

Well, I guess you could use it to hang someone from. You see that all the time in the movies.

Paddle strops or loom strops could hang from the hooks, with a small leather loop attatched to the strops,,,

If you use small face towels, they could be folded lenghtwise & there would be "4" available clean towels,,,,

LOL! I'd have to have some massive drywall anchors for that kind of Wet Work, thebigspender! ;)

Definitely liking these ideas... I'd thought about the "Shelf" and using braided copper wire or something to suspend the wood from the hooks. Diggin' the Brush Hanger Idea... And, if I used a length of rope with a series of loops tied in then I'd be able to store multiple Brushes but only take up one Hook... Maybe the answer will turn out to be "All Of The Above"?! I could build a small suspended shelf, next hang a length of rope with the loops for the Brushes, Strops hanging next and the Umbrella could easily hang under the Top Hat... Though, I rarely take my Top Hat off anymore! :p

I included a pic of the Back. The reason I believe it is likely not as old as it appears is one of the pics in the eBay description showed the guy unscrewing it from his fence outside. He could have been doing that just to accelerate the patina but, dunno for sure. These are still quite available on eBay for around $15-$20 and with the steel shortage during the War (... trying to sound like an older gent as I cannot remember if it was WWI or WWII...) that is why I'm questioning the availability coupled with the somewhat lower prices. This item is just ringing my "Reproduction" bells... But, I certainly don't know for sure. When I searched for it just a bit ago I found this link:

... of one painted in contrasting colors. I like that look as well but the patina won me over initially so not sure I'd be able to bring myself to prep and paint it. But, it does look cool like that as well!

I like the Towel Idea, Hirlau... I could even roll them up with a Washcloth on the outermost roll and have contrasting colors in the material then squish them between the hooks. !?

Havee to say a coat hanger at that size,if you mounted a shelf for brushes all that neat stuff would be covered up.

I see it as the bottom rail on a small frame face cabinet. Kind of like a medicine cabinet but with a glass door and glass shelves, perhaps slightly backset to the rest of the cabinet, and used for strop or towel hanging, or both. It is pretty darn cool. It might look good with a few dabbled swipes of black paint on the high spots, or transversely in the deeper crannies. It has serious potential.

LOL... Yeah, that is the decision I keep coming back to. But, I am liking the idea of this Hanger under/inset to a Cabinet. Lots of good ideas that have my creative energy flowin'... Unfortunately, this is not the SWMBO's idea of 'cool'... So, it may be a late-night session with a silencer on my drill using anti-vandalism anchors! :)

Hey, I've got one just like it on my bathroom wall! The wife thought it was cool and had me buy it for the bathroom. I did use good anchors so I could hang anything on it without taking a chance it would pull out. I do not think it is old as I have seen many of those around for sale. I would take a picture of it except I am traveling out of state.
