A New Razor Stand?

Hello All!

Yesterday, I found myself in a local office supply store and ran across an item which immediately struck me as a possible way to store my on deck rotation of razors. This item is actually made as a pen/pencil holder. The little "teeth" you see in the photo are rubber and should not cause any damage to the razors. Of note, however, is that I had to insert the razors tang first as the rubber teeth are capable of finding their way between the scales and could contact the cutting edge should you insert the razor wedge end first - all of the razors that I have are tall enough to avoid this issue.

Nonetheless, I thought I would share the idea. I intend to give this a try and will let everyone know if I run into any troubles...So far, so good...

I think tang down is the best way, any moisture in that area will run off the razor rather than down the scales. Only caveat I would add is that if there is any moisture on the tang/scale area, you want to be very sure it's dry before you put it in to store.

That's a great idea! Now I wonder what other kind of pen holders are out there. :)

Cool box. Looks like it will hold them well.
On my 'go to' rack, I store wedge down and flip them tang down after use so I know where in my rotation I am.
Works for me, and keeps me honest during the week.

Along the way I have seen quite a few pen holders and boxes made use of for razor storage and display. One that stands out in my mind was a countertop display made of lucite. A quick search should produce a lot of viable options.

Novel repurposing. It would be awesome if you could remove the rubber tooth insert, cut the bottom off by about a 1/4", and put down a single layer of small moisture absorbent packets Oh, or a slightly better idea: swap the packs with Damp-rid crystals and some sort of thin cloth (doubled cheesecloth? Snippet of old t-shirt?) to prevent the tangs from being in contact/surrounded by the moisture absorbing crystals. Just spit-balling here; thinking outside the box to come up with solutions helps to keep my brain from hardening :).

That's a really good idea! I may actually play with this idea on my router. Possibly a "tray" that slides on and off at the bottom made from a complimentary wood (such as teak) that will hold the damp-rid crystals... To date, I have simply kept a cloth underneath to catch any moisture, but this doesn't work to draw moisture down from the razors...

Lateral turbine fan
+battery holder (Philmore)
+watch batteries?
+perforated metal (brass or tin? Something shiny...) shroud to hide the fan & attach to wood SR holder.

Using watch batteries to get to the necessary voltage to get it to run, since they are small.

All this, if just attached to the bottom in a stack, would likely make the whole thing top-heavy & possibly unsightly. Possibly build a complimentary wood base to hide the batteries next to, instead of under the fan? Also, the base could have channels routed into it to provide more airflow. More like a foot... 1" to 1 1/2" thick plank of wood that would be the same shape as the SR holder (top-down view), only larger by about 1 to 2 inches on every side.

Hmmm... I feel like that last sentence might not have made sense, or that I'm rambling too much. So I'll stop trying to invent a pen that can write in null-G.

Let us know if you ever mod the holder to mitigate the moisture problem!
