If, as I think you are, you are asking for some examples he could use as design samples from their pictures, there are a lot including Dirty Bird, Georgetown Pottery, SRD, many on Etsy.com, etc, etc. Most are one piece, doubled bowled.
Personally, I have found that after a while they all take up space and become superfluous. A cup sitting in a sink of hot water or two small bowls nestled together work fine. Over the last two years, I have transitioned almost exclusively to face lathering, often with cold, cool or lukewarm water after being obsessed with hot lather at first.
Most modern scuttles aren't really for lather production. They are more to keep the lather warm during the shave.
If you are going to have one made for you the critical specification is to have it hold enough water so as to keep the contents warm for you during the entire shave. I've found 16 oz is about the minimum to do that. Some hold much more.
If you face lather you may want to create a smaller inner bowl to keep the brush warm in tighter quarters. If you want to create lather in the scuttle, you will need room to move the brush around and ridges or bumps to put some air in your lather.
Most of the scuttle makers list the dimensions for inner and out bowl.
Moss, SWK, Georgetown to give you some ideas.
I am on a well in Bakersfield. My scuttle holds a lot of water! I let it cool and use the water elsewhere.
Thanks for all the quick replies and advice. I guess I should have specified how I lather. I really like soaps at the moment and have a seperate container to load my brush and then I transfer to another bowl to build the lather a little more. I've tried the face lather when I'm in a hurry but it doesn't ever last as long. My concern and reason for getting a scuttle is to keep the lather warm. It seems to me that it would help with the entire shaving process. Hot towel and then warm lather. Finish with cold towel not cold lather.
If I'm understanding this correctly there is no holy grail scuttle it's personal preference. In your experience have you found a two piece or one piece large scuttles easier to make and keep lather? Handle, no handle, knob anything else?
Thanks again for the help.
I own the three I mentioned above. The G20 from Georgetown is very nice. The Schwarzweisskeramik keeps and makes the best lather and is the best build and design, the moss I had made with a slightly smaller bowl to keep the brush nice and toasty and the Moss is by far the easiest to load with water. They all have handle which is a good thing since they can get slippery if soap gets on the outside.
Which Schwarzweisskeramik do you have. There website shows a lot of different styles. But they all are double walled which is a nice addition. Not sure if my friend can do that.
and I have the DirtyBird, with a handle and "spider-web" ridges in the bowl so you can whip up lather if you want to. It does a great job when I use it....I just don't use it that much anymore.Attachment 195007

Not sure if that worked. Large scuttle in white
Photos always help. Dang you guys are quick with fancy photos. The dirty bird seems solid and would keep its warmth. How is the side bowl on the Schwarzweisskeramik?
I am enjoying it. Dip the brush for a bit more moisture. I watched Ansgar's video and he used it to store the soap dish. His must have been full of water because mine wanted to tip.
Final product here and ready to use. He made three different sizes for my brothers and I to try out. I currently have the largest one and it is working fantastic. I now understand why people want to warm the lather. So nice.
Mori, Stephen made these scuttles. He just started selling ceramics in Santa Barbara but has been practicing for years. Take a look. Attachment 203193 Attachment 203192 Sorry there not professional photos.
its worth it
Dirty Bird Pottery - Wheel thrown and hand crafted home goods, kitchenware, gardenware, shaving pieces and more... can even get colors not listed on her site check out my profile pic
I started with the bowl in the sink method, when I started with a straight razor. That's also how I dinged my first blade. Since, I bought a Gorgetown Pottery G15 and set it to the side of the sink. Makes my wife happy too, with less soap residue and hair in the sink.
I do use the G15 to lather. It has bumps at the bottom, and I've had no problems getting a lather with a cream. YMMV
I have a Doug Smith scuttle that has the ribs or speed bumps built in to the scuttle for agitating lather production! Love his pottery!
Here is a smaller one he sells..........Attachment 204140
I just got my new baby from Ukraine... Ebay seller traditions_of_shaving current item number 181751832571 Even though I'm a face-latherer, I still love the way it kept my lather warm for a 3 pass shave. The "blue" is more an indigo black, that looks great with tirquois accents.. Well packaged, which is great because the box got pretty beat up by various postal services. I think the maker is the e-bay seller and the owner of leza-shaving.com (cheaper to buy this scuttle via e-bay, btw)

Love the color variation in the Doug smith. And the indigo black is super sleek looking. Both nice scuttles. It's a pleasant addition to the routine. The scuttle steps it up a notch and really makes it enjoyable.
I'm glad the wife still lets me keep mine on the counter. It's the only item so far that isn't hidden away.
