I have a steady supply of Hoppes No.9 Gun Oil.
Seems like there wouldn't be any harm in using it for long term razor storage.
Any opinions on this?

I have a very small bottle of RemOil I keep next to my microfiber cloth for razors going away for a few weeks ,, but I als o use tiff glide wipes to Tc
I use Ballistol, it's been in use in Europe for about 100 years. It's my understanding that most of the hunting lodges over there smell like it! I like the smell and it rinses off very easily. I've sent razors back to the above (tcrideshd) with it on his very nice blades. :tu
If it is Hoppes oil I'd say it should be fine. If it is Hoppes Nitro Solvent I'd look elsewhere. I love the smell of HNS, but I was taught to clean that off the firearm & oil it afterwards. Might be too much of a good thing.
My favorite is R.I.G. (rust inhibiting grease) put out by Birchwood Casey nowadays.

I've used Remoil on razors and everything else for a long time.
I use Barricade or Ballistol
Any mineral oil should do no ?
I use Hoppes' #9. Works great for me.
It’s an acquired taste, it will fill a shop but does not last long, grew up with the scent of No. 9, always brings back great memories…
I've been using castor oil as well.
I think castor oil can go on just about anything.
Petroleum or mineral oils are fine, avoid plant or vegetable based oils as they will in time become rancid/gummy.
I use baby oil.
Its just scented mineral oil
I use WD40 to displace moisture that can damage the metal. I don't really see the need for a lubricant, though. I like the gun oil and Hoppe's #9 ideas since they are meant to protect metal from harmful stuff like moisture and acidic skin oils, etc. Good ideas!
I'm new to straights, but have gun oil, Camilla oil, baby oil. I just think the baby oil is perfect.
Personally I think just about any oil work as long as it doesn't rot or irritate the skin.
Rem Oil, Ballistol, or good old 3 in 1 oil. All will work fine.
I use 3M Silicone spray a general use product for preventative maintenance, protection and lubrication. It lubricates moving parts, without becoming resinous and can be used over a wide temperature range thereby, providing long lasting protection against moisture and corrosion. 3M silicone spray is neutral towards paints, plastic, rubber, foamed materials, wood and fabrics.
I second Balistol
Gun oil may contain additives that can be agressive. Find some Tsubaki Oil from Amazon. Chefs use it to prserve their steel knives that touches food.
I use a type of gun oil on all my razors Tuf-Glide
Attachment 236269
I like it over other lubricants because it stays put, meaning it wont migrate like some oils (run off the blade via gravity)
Even if you wipe the majority off the blade there will still be remnants of Tuf-Glide on the blade protecting it.
I even dig the smell of it.
Is it a bangin' razor??
I'd stick with mineral oil or vaseline. The stuff in gun oil, even in miniscule amounts, might irritate your skin.
For long term i use SRD razor oil and a coat of R. I. G. then wrap in wax paper . This has worked for me for a long time. I know it worked for over 20 years on a couple of blades. Not the SRD oil but the R I G. On some blades that has a mirror finish oil will some times puddle up and leave some areas exposed. The R I G will coat evenly and stay for a very long time. When i'm ready to use the razor i just clean the oil or grease off it with tissue paper strop and shave.
Funny how many of us use our gun oils. You can add me to that group of guys. Still use the Remington oil on my straights even though I don't use it on my weapons anymore.
Applying a little to some TP will do 5 straights easy.
I've used just about everything out there, depends on long term or short, but gun oil is fine, I keep a little bottle of RemOil in the gun safe and if I put a razor up for long term I will rub a drop on the blade. I don't know about hard on your skin but everyone I Know wipes off a blade that has any lube on it, mineral oil, olive oil , Wd40. Tc
I use baby oil but only when I'm shipping the razor.
