Stumbled upon this patent that looked very interesting: Patent US453538 - Shaving-cup - Google Patents
I found it helpful to have the image open separately so I could follow along with the patent description.
I'm wondering, has anyone ever come across one of these? Seems like it would work nicely...

Since you don't see them it can be assumed it went nowhere.
The patent office is full of offbeat items that never went anywhere. people file just in case to protect themselves.
Some are interesting though.
