I also enjoy my Old Spice mug, and I store the brush in a warm scuttle in between passes. Sorry, I don't mean to distract from the thread but I have a quick question. Why the foil over the puck? Thanks.

The foil is to keep dust off the soap when the mug is sitting on the shelf. The foils is also the original soap wrapper which helps with identification.
Old brown soup bowl with slight ribbing inside for me. Has a piece on the bottom I can hold when lathering. I think it cost 50p from a charity shop. Tried various shaving mugs and bowls and like that best.
I'm keeping my eyes open for something with some light texture on the inside like slight ribbing. I've been using a smooth bowl and it works ok, but from all I'm reading here I want to try something a bit textured now. I should be able to come across something like that one of these days.
I use a bowl I made myself at a friend's pottery workshop and an old spice mug which l find to be a bit small for the task.

That is a really nice bowl Captain !! :tu
I use a metal mixing bowl that fits nicely in hand and cost under $2.00 in the restaurant supply. It is wide and shallow and whips up a great lather. then I float it in the sink full of hot water to heat up my cream
