I heard about this somewhere and have been using it for awhile now, works pretty good, and it is easy to dip the brush in the hot water to adjust consistency.

Hey, if it works, do it..! Good job! :tu
If you want a little more room for whipping up lather you can do it with 2 different sized bowls as well.
I do the same thing, using a soup bowl.
Yup, I use a ramekin inside a bowl. I use them simply because they were extra stuff in my basement. I've no doubt a scuttle would work better but mine was free so I have (had) more money for hones!
Great idea. I'm gonna give it a try on my next shave.
Thanks,
Mark
Hello, sloppyjoec:
Your scuttle is creative and, I'm sure, it works as well as some of the fancy ones. I admire creativity. Well done.

Just picked up this mug a Bed Bath And Beyond for $5 because the one I was using was a little small. I'm going to put it in a Pyrex bowl from the kitchen that is just the right size for it. This is a soup mug so there will be plenty of room for whipping up lather and it still has a handle.
I like that mug, and i am glad that many of us don't need to spend the long dollar to get a nice straight razor shave.
Thanks I started with this mug and brush, will use the brush until I get a badger hair not from the golden nib and make a better one. The brush is a body shop synthetic. And so far I have just filled my sink up and set the mug in the sink full of hot water. I like your idea of using a bowl on the side better.
