Georgetown Pottery makes a fine, fine looking scuttle (pictured here in purple & hamada). I'll let others debate the practical merits, for me this is an object of desire pure and simple. I would even argue that its faults (I wish the diameter was wider for bowl lathering, but that might detract from its aesthetic beauty so nevermind) only make it more endearing. I mean seriously, wow.

Your correct it's probably the most beautiful of the scuttles available out there and if your looking for a display piece that's the one you want. For daily use for a straight shaver there are much better alternatives out there. My opinion of course.
Last weekend I tested five different scuttles (including the G5) for heat retention (http://straightrazorpalace.com/brush...-scuttles.html) and the G5 was the weakest performer. I think the main reason is the fact that it had the smallest reservoir to hold hot water.Quote:

I can't explain the contradiction between the test and actual performance, but (pardon the pun) I think the testing is what puts the Georgetown in hot water. I'll make an educated guess that the rubber stopper is the equalizer.
Georgetown Pottery put the lip inside the rim (thereby making the lathering area smaller) to help keep the lather from spilling over the side.
I drew basically the same conclusion you did, that they all work and that each person will be best served by choosing the one that impresses him the most.
for some reason i feel the dirtybird is much more aesthetically pleasing.

I have the G5 and an Oskar and in use the difference is startling stopper or not. Using the same microwaved boiling water in both after 5 minutes the lather in the G5 is lukewarm and the Oskar is almost too hot to use. At the end of a 15 minute shave when I pour out the water the G5 is cold the Oskar is still very warm.
The problem with the G5 isn't only the paltry reservoir but the very thick walls. The Oskar holds over twice as much water and has much thinner walls.
My son uses my G5 for his DE shaves and for a quick DE shave it's fine.
