I've recently started sporting a goatee for the first time since I was 18 when I tried it out but could never get the precise straight lines. Needless to say, the straight razor makes this very easy for me and it has perfect lines. However, it is not easy to cut with scissors and I want uniform length.
There are lots of products on the market I know, but can anyone recommend a cheap one that does the trick well?

I've used a Conair turbo for years now. It has served me well, held up nice. My only complaint is trimming my moustache. My Goatee is dense, and it struggles a bit trimming the lip line (moustache). Other than that, The overall trimming is great...The blade guard is adjusable...and it has several attachments which I never use...Wal Mart...I think it was around 20 - 30 bucks...I can't remember, it's a been a while...
I had a cheap Conair for years as well. It was alright, but it was a battery hog. I have been using a Remington rechargable for the last few years. It has 9 settings, so it's very versatile. About $25 or so at Walmart.
Been using this for the past year, and I am pretty happy with it.

This is what I'm going for. There's a Boots very close to my office, so I'll have one by tomorrow. Seems to be a successor of the MB 40. I like the fact that it has adjustable lengths rather than different clipper guards that are separate and would no doubt get lost.

Yup, that's the one that I have, only a few years older. You'll be happy with it. But 25 quid? Things sure are more expensive over the pond.Quote:

My first set finally broke last year, I bought them in 1982 and if I had wanted to I could have just re-wired the cord on it...
I replaced them with this newer model...

Whal clippers for me as well. Since I use it on my head once a week, I just give it a go on my chin as well.

As for the price, like I said before it was probably around $25-$35 (approx) CDN. I couldn't imagine that I would have spent more than that. But that's the way it goes, I guess. Some things are cheaper here than there, just as I'm sure some things are cheaper there than here. My wife (who lived in England as a small child, family comes from Manchester too) buys certain British foods from specialty stores; it would make your jaw drop if you knew how much a Curly Wurly costs here!
I've been wearing a beard for around 40 years, and I always end up using barber scissors. Good, sharp ones. I will sometimes put one of the larger-numbered feet on my Wahl clippers to reduce the overall length if I've been lax in trimming it, but in the end the scissors and comb come out for shaping and catching up the wild hairs.

I use a Philishave cordless beard trimmer. I have only had it for about two months since my last one crapped out, but it seems to work well. I like it because it has like a little vacuum to suck the hair into a trap, which is nice cuz I don't end up having to do as much cleanup around my sink or spend time combing the little hairs out of my goatee or sideburns once they are cut.
