I just bought one of the ebay cheapies that are listed as 60x and have the built in LED light. It is surprisingly good. You get quite a good look at the edge. I've been able to pick up a few things with it that I normally would have known about.
I use one of these 15x loupes from Lee Valley. Works great and even has a built-in light. 15-Power Lighted Loupe - Lee Valley Tools
Best regards,

I use one of these. It's only 8x but that's plenty for me & diameter is 36mm so you get a wider view. Those 21mm diameter ones drive me nuts :)

I like these.
Of course I have trouble scrounging the cash for a 3 pack of underwear, so, I just like them.
I used to use a 20X lighted jewelers loupe a lot but now find myself using a children's magnifying glass.Attachment 136597
I have tried many loupes, and recently purchases a 30x triplet with 6 LEDs. The pros: the image is not reversed. The cons :the depth of field is very small, and although the glass area is large, the in-focus area is much smaller. 2) The magnification is a little low for picking up details of the edge.
Now, I do not use any of my loupes, and found that the $10 50x pen microscope I originally purchased can't be beat. It took me a while to adjust for the reversed image, but other than that it works great. The 50x seems to be perfect for the purpose, and the image is clear and well illuminated. The size is small, so I just keep it next to the sink. Also, being plastic it won't chip the edge easily if you bump it.
