By car? Train? Airline (and if so, with checked baggage?)?
I gave up flying over 20 years ago, so it's not so critical. For space savings, I take a Palmolive shaving stick in a pill bottle that has a cap with a flange that fits it perfectly, an Edwin Jagger pure badger aluminum travel brush, TSA-size aftershave (3 ounce max) and an old Gillette Travel Razor Kit that isn't much larger than a double-edge blade. Don't try to take one on an airplane.

If I were carrying a straight, I'd bring a Rup Razor Filly Strop or something similar.
Underwear and socks.
:D
For me, it depends on how long I'll be gone.
If I've got a short trip, and am packing small, then I like the TI Travel paddle strop, a stick soap, a travel-sized brush and a Osma Alum bar. The bar is most interesting for me, as it is a deodorant (it's the same stuff as a deodorant stone) and as an after-shave. All I do is rub it on and rinse it off after a few minutes and use whatever tube of skin lotion to finish up my cheeks.
On a longer trip (two weeks+) I've brought along a barber hone or a small Coti bout and tube cream, like the Musgo or Proraso, though I've often enjoyed picking up the local tube cream. I used a tube of local Greek tube cream and loved it so much that I brought some back for friends.
I've also used a spare leather shoelace as a strop too. I loved doing that.
and what would you guys recommend as a travel bag
If you REALLY care about space saving, a quart (TSA size) to gallon size zip-lock freezer bag. If you have room, and the stuff to fill it, a nice leather Dopp bag looks classy heading to the bathrooms.
It depends on how I’m traveling and how much volume or weight I want to use on shaving stuff.
If I ‘m going to travel light or through airports where stuff might disappear,
I bring a travel DE, blades, a travel brush and Proraso soap.

For a more comfortable trip, or by car;
I bring one or two straight razors, Böker paddle, travel brush, Proraso soap and an ASB.

Hello, Zargat:
I have a WWI British officer-style roll-up wet pack that stays packed for the most part with the essentials, including a tub Edwin Jagger pre-shave, a tub of Erasmic shaving soap (when finished, I have a travel tub of Edwin Jagger soap standing by), Edwin Jagger travel brush, alum block and Pre de Provence aftershave balm. In addition I have a Merkur travel double edge with blades for backup. When ready to travel, I finish loading the wet pack with two 4/8" straights, although sometimes one regular straight and the Feather Artist Club, and aftershave. My two-inch Tony Miller strop with a leather tether goes on top of everything inside my suitcase.
Regards,
Obie
You should test for travel a synthetic brush.
