Does anyone see any issues with protecting my daily razor with Shea Butter? For long term storage I'm applying gun oil, but I'm not too keen to use gun oil on my daily razor, as I don't want that on my strop or face. Shea Butter seems to work so far (goes on like grease), but I honestly have no idea if it can etch like skin oils do? Has anyone had any experience with this?
I tried researching this question but did not reach a solid conclusions. The potential danger using organic fats and oils is that they also contain fatty acids - (I do believe this also applies to shea butter) - and acids generally is something we want to keep well away from shiny steel. Personally, knowing that baby oil is cheap and available anywhere, would hesitate to take the chance.

I would use mineral oil (baby oil) as a protectant in preference to shea butter (or any other natural oil/fat).
For short term use the natural oils/fats are OK, but, as a generalisation, they do tend break down over time and/or become gummy.

In my experience,and I live in a relatively humid climate, as long as you keep the razor dry and use it more or less regularly,
no oil of any kind needed.
I played golf in the rain Friday, for only two hours, and my sand wedge had rusted by the time I was finished. My golf game had rusted too, but that's a different story. I keep some kind of oil on all my blades all the time, although I don't take them with me out on the golf course. Actually, when the rain was coming down hard, I wished I had one with me, but then I lit up a cigar and felt better.
