Shave Kit Storage
I'm relatively new to straight shaving, but since I live in a dorm, I need a cheap, easy, and compact way to store my kit. Currently, my setup consists of 2 straights (ok, one straight and one shavette), poor man's strop kit, oil, cream, brush, aftershave balm, alum, styptic, and blades. I was thinking of making two cigar box cases, one with felt and/or velvet lined basswood and a desiccator for the razors and another one made with felt and/or velvet lined cut styrofoam to hold everything else (minus strop and balsa) to create a glove fit for each piece. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
PS: any other ideas are welcome.

Hi and welcome to SRP.
Do a search and you'll find many good ideas:

While you can call it a kit, there is no reason to keep your razors and other stuff in the same container. If I were in a dorm, I'd put my razors in my sock drawer, perhaps even in a sock, and keep the other stuff, especially the stuff containing moisture, in a separate place.

A small pelican case is a great option.

I agree with ace. Keep the blades separate, in a dry location, like the sock drawer.
If you still want to keep everything together in an economical way, then try using a zip-up toiletry bag. It is light, portable, and can hold your stuff well. You can even store each straight razor in a toothbrush case, and keep the cases snug in the bag. Add some tissue or toilet paper to the toothbrush case when storing the SR to help absorb moisture.

I kept everything that I used on a shelf on my desk, using a razor stand. I had a room mate that wouldn't mess with it though. I also used a cigar box or 2, I just kept my razor and brush out and on a stand to dry
