Movember 2022 Bill Barber Loom strop reproduction

I built a couple of these strops on the request of a member to recapture the style, and hopefully quality of a loom strop built by a former forum member Bill Barber.
The one was commissioned, one I kept, and this one I meant to sell, or gift to someone. But never got around to it during the last couple years of isolation
So here it is.

Hours and a fair bit of dough went into the construction, as it’s Horween Horsehide strop, with the B side sueded for either diamond paste, or initial cleaning of the blade.
All solid brass and babinga exotic hardwood used, with s.s. guide rods for strength and longevity. 30 30 casings set in as inlays to tie it all together as an outdoorsy style tool.
Should last a few lifetimes.
Bidding starts at $150 just due to the construct investment and the auction will run till Nov 29th at midnight EST.

Thanks for the bid Randy, and everyone else already, but no, it’s not cordovan. It is horse, made with a cold rolled process, so no added oils in the tanning process, from Horween of Chicago. They selected materials for me based on my request for strop worthy hide.
As I cut each strop I ensured any natural blemishes would be on the B side which would be eliminated in the sueding process.
Natural Mink oil was used to soften the hide before assembly, but in very sparing amounts with a lot of palm rubbing to work it supple.
The action is fast, like a cordovan and you can play with the handle tension to give you a looser, or taughter stropping surface to suit your style. I find the length works well on the counter in front of the sink. Just remember to make sure the counter is dry before you use it.
freehand, resting it on my leg while watching tv works very well also. If the wife doesn’t mind that soothing swish sound.
I have a few that need honing again actually…

Hi fellas. I bought a 3" wide piece of leather from Mike during last years Movember. I fitted my own hardware to it and that strop is my daily driver. Sweet draw, a pleasure to use. If I could, I would be all over this. Really nice work on this one Mike.

Thanks. They are very hard to get. Apparently you have to be very aggressive in bidding to get one because of competition. Big bonus, it is for a really good charity.

Shaun is a Big Winner this year for sure. That Strop is a beauty!
