I may have the terminology all wrong, but what do you guys like as far as splashes that I can use to sooth my face after a shave. I don't mind a little burn I think it feels good.
I'm not so much a fan of the creams.

Hello, Stdre27:
My first suggestion would be to give your handsome face a small application of Thayers Medicated Super Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera. This is a great astringent. Beyond that, aftershaves are a matter of taste.
If I were selecting for myself, I would choose Spanish Leather aftershave by Trumper, Woods of Windsor (by Woods of Windsor), No. 74 Victoria Lime by Taylor of Old Bond Street, and No. 6 Aftershave (supposedly designed for our great president George Washington) by Caswell-Massey. I also will never be without Truefitt & Hill's Spanish Leather, though that's a cologne and I don't think it comes in aftershave.

+1 on Obie's post.
Of course, you can always try some Aqua Velva. Its affordable, readily available in your local drugstore and many SRP members swear by it.
As for me...I like bay rum. Dominica and Ogallala are my favorite brands.
I just got some Trumpers Spanish Leather at the weekend and its great! Its definately one I will replace when it runs out, thats for sure.
Witch hazel is probably the best liquid for soothing your face, you can then follow this with an alcohol based AS. I would apply enough witch hazel to leave you skin wet (but not dripping) and then immediately go to the AS.
You will notice that I do not use the word splash, it does not accuratlly describe the method of application (you do not splash it on, at least not unless you want to make a big mess), what is applied (since you don't splash it on, it is not a splash of anything) and its use as a subjective noun (i.e. aftershave splash) it is effete and should be avoided.
:aargh:
But one of mine even says splash on the bottle...?
I like Masters bay rum aftershave splash. Alraz makes a very nice bay rum aftershave splash as well. It is not at all effete
Now listen here, fccepxert, I still don’t understand what you’re playing at here. First of all you are boring everyone to death with your outdated, elitist, idiosyncratic, and effectively wrong notions of verbalisation. This is a shaving forum, not some self help group for people with early onset pragmalinguistics dementia. Well I’d appreciate it if you could stop that splashing nonsense already.
Kind regards,
Robin
PS Which usage, by the way?
Some of my favs are Tabac (if you like the scent), Dominica or Royall Bay Rum - they play well with others, DR Harris Sandalwood a/s, Speick, Alt Innsbruck, Italian Floid, Old Spice, and Aqua Velva. What scents do you like? :)
Jordan
My favorites are Musco Real, Speick, Dr Harris Sandalwood, Italian Floid,
Master Bay Rum, Tabac, LaToja, all Thayers!
Well I guess I'm anything but effete. I like the cheap drugstore stuff, i.e., all the Clubman/Pinaud products (especially their original and Bay Rum), Mennon, Aqua Velva and Old Spice. And I don't splash in on either, I literally slap in on. Simulates circulation in the face and it feels so good when I stop.:)

effete? I guess it doesn't mean what I thought it was.
I'm not sure what I like, well actually, I tried some of the soaps from TGQ. And my favorite smell was the Toasted Almond. I didn't like the Dessert Iron wood very much at all.
I say this kindly. We all know you don't like the usage of the word splash. Please stop hijacking threads about it. It's common usage, and isn't going to go away. This isn't the anti-splash forums. If you would like, I'll register a domain for you. But let's put the focus back on shaving here.
Thanks
David
Premium Witch Hazel : Thayers Natural Remedies, Since 1847
which one are you talkin about?
Have you ever tried the toner instead of the AS?
I finish my shaving ritual with Thayer's Lemon followed by my favorite: Proraso Splash...I also like Pinaud and Dominica Bay Rum. So many aftershaves so little time.
How would you describe the scent of the aftershave? I like the subtle soapy clean smell of their shave cream.

Hello, Stdrb27:
This is the one to which I refer. It is fabulous stuff. I pour a small amount of it in my hand and apply it to my Hollywood face. I don't use it as an aftershave; rather, as an after the shave astringent — after the warm water rinse. Then I follow it with aftershave balm and finally the standard aftershave.

http://www.thayers.com/store/images/...per_bottle.jpg Thayers Medicated Superhazel with Aloe Vera Formula Astringent
To the Rescue! Thayers Medicated Superhazel with Aloe Vera Formula is a natural first-aid kit in a bottle, soothing itches, rashes, burns, insect bites, razor burn and other irritations faster than a speeding bullet. 12oz bottle Ingredients: Thayers Proprietary Witch Hazel, Peppermint, Camphor, Calendula, Eucalyptus, Clove, Aloe Vera, and natural grain alcohol as a preservative (20%).
cool, I'm thinking about trying one of them with grain alcohol.
So at the local health food store (they have GREAT deals on Ny Strips like 6.99 a pound) I ran across some of the thayers products you were suggesting. That is always nice, I didn't have to drop 10 bucks then 5 more for shipping....
I love a bit of witch hazel after a shave... as many have said before :D
And would you be havin' a couple of olives in that too? :nj

I used the witch hazel as an aftershave, it works amazingly well. And yesterday was a good test, because my skin was a little irritated before I shaved...
Does your local Walgreens or CVS carry them? Over here on the other side of the state that's where I get the original and the Bay Rum. Otherwise check out Texas Beauty Supply. They're about the cheapest in terms of products cost plus shipping. I've purchased from them before.

Splash splash splash spla-splash pa spla spla splash. Splash.
Some of my favorites include Trumper Marlborough, Taylor Mr. Taylor, Floris Santal and Alt Innsbruck. For some reason my shave feels even closer after I splash one of these on and as an added benefit, they smell great.
My favorite "Splash" is Proraso's splash--a little pricey, but a nice mild scent.
