Cocoa Butter
Good afternoon, all
I picked up a jar of cocoa butter today with the hope of finding a short- term solution to my current need for a good aftershave/moisturizer. Does anyone have much insight into how well it should perform? Also, what would be a good balm or cream to start with?
Much thanks,
-Wolf

Pre de Provence or The gentlemans refinery both make good balms.

It's a common ingredient in many skin care products but by itself I would think its too greasy.
You might try Trumpers Skin Food.

I use a Nivea Aftershave conditioning lotion about every other shave currently to keep my face moist and not greasy. SWMBO likes the way it smells too.
I have pure cocoa butter that I have tried and it is too greasy

Cocoa Butter
Hello, Wolfcobra:
Trumper's Skin Food (I prefer the rose) is an exceptionally good aftershave balm. I also recommend Nivea, which should be available at your local pharmacy.

There is a product line called Palmer's that prominently features cocoa butter. My wife bought several types of it in the UK, I believe. It's typically used as a moisturizer - perhaps for hands, feet, elbows, etc.
At full strength, it is certainly too greasy for the face, but a pea-sized amount on wet hands applied to wet skin makes for a great post-shave balm.
In a nutshell, try a very small amount of your cocoa butter and cut it with water. :)

Cocoa butter is simply the fat that is extracted from the cocoa berries used in making chocolate. It contains a number of different fatty acid chains, and a very high level of antioxidants. Like any oil, it can be used to "moisturize" your skin (what it actually does is provide a barrier to the skin surface that prevents the loss of moisture).

Olive oil
A couple of drops makes a nice end to my shaving routine.

All of these posts offer great post-shave treatment ideas. Personally, I don't see anything out of the ordinary using just a bit of cocoa butter to massage into one's face after a shave--especially during the winter months. Its a great moisturizer and skin softener.

My wife uses cocoa butter and i would think its a bit greasy for your face, nivea is a good cream and well liked by de shavers, or whitch hazel.
