using oils as a post shave treatment

so i'm currently in the northstate and i have to say.. the cold weather is killing me.. i'm naturally more on the oiled side and the warmer weather of southern california allows me to use the nice alcohol based splashes i love so much..

however.. the cold weather of the northstate is destroying my face.. and the nivea balm only does so much.. i'm dried out and peeling like crazy.

i was thinking of sticking with my bottle o' smellgood and following it up with a rubbing of pure vitamin e oil..

does or has anyone else done this? what are your experiences or recommendations.

I live in the northeast where around this time it gets cold and the air dries. I use Vaseline for Men every day on my skin. I used it after shower, after shave and when I get up in the morning. It costs about 6-7 dollars for a huge container with a pump nozzle.

No matter what I put on my face, this goes on last. Try it out, you will like it.

I don't see why not...They make lotions with Vit E and Aloe, even JoJoba oil, and Shea, all of which is good for your skin...In the winter, when it's dry, It's good to replace the oils in your skin...

Pretty cold here in Norway during winter. I use a shea butter cream to replenish oils, keeps my face smooth hydrated.

This may or may not be a factor with you, but something that needs to be taken into consideration with dry flakey skin is water intake. Be sure to drink ALOT of water. I think the recommended amount is something like 8 glasses. I don't quite get that much myself but I take a crack at it each day. I think that would improve many peoples skin problems to some degree (at least when it comes to dryness). Don't get me wrong, try other products, just something I think may be overlooked sometimes.

Most products containing oils are formulated so the oil either soaks in or evaporates. I have oily skin so if I used actual oil it would be a mess. I guess as long as your skin isn't left with excess oil on it you would profit from it.

For years I have used aloe vera gel. Has great healing properties and is very soothing, especially after a shave where I may have some irritation. Also dries nicely and leaves no oily residue.

Where are you at? I'm in norcal as well. I grew up here so my skin doesn't really have any issues. Just a bayrum aftershave splash and I'm good to go.

I do use Mitchell's Wool Fat soap, which has lanolin in it, so that probably helps without me even knowing it.
