I recently ordered a few different types of Pinaud Clubman aftershave (almost all of them, actually). I'm in Korea right now, so I sent them to my house in IL so they'll be there when I get back next week to visit. I've been reading a lot about them being really strong, so I was wondering how much you guys use. I typically use about a teaspoonful or less of Alt Innsbruck or Aqua Velva when I use them. Would this be too much and be overpoweringly strong smelling?
I use about a quarter size pool in the palm of my hand. It's really all preferance though...you'll have to try it to know whats right for you. Me, I like it strong :)
I think the various products Pinaud makes behave differently. Clubman lasts a good long time for me, as does the Virgin Island Bay Rum. Lime Sec seems to fade somewhat quicker. In any event, I start off with a good hearty splash in the cupped palm. It's hard to use too much because they are all about AS dilution. (Even the Lime Sec, which is marketed as "cologne")

I pour a small amount of aftershave (I rotate a dozen or so fragrances), about a teaspoonful, and then gently slap it on with much aplomb. After all, one of life's great pleasures is that fragrant liquid after a sweet shave.

i personally have seemed to ask this question in my head many a time.. what i do... i use enough to coat the entire surface of the area shaved.. which tends to be about a tablespoon or a halves worth.. or in shave speak.. a few healthy shakes towards a cupped palm..
also.. obie.. please inform me of the definition of aplomb?

I love the scent, but the full strength Clubman right out of the bottle is a bit heavy for my liking, so I dilute it about 50% with alcohol. [1]Quote:

I think you've got it about right. The strength of most are comparable with the others you use - with the exception of the Special reserve, which is quite potent, like Pashana strength. Hope you enjoy. I find the Vanilla Clubman and Citrus Musk particularly nice.
If you're talking about Lilac vegetal it depends how much your system can tolerate before death ensues.;)
i like this word aplomb.. i'm going to take on everything with aplomb from now on..
as for the vegetal.. i remember hearing it was designed to mask the scent of dead bodies.. so either way.. you'll be covered.

I have several Pinaud aftershaves, all clubman, and I just stopped using them after a while. When I did use them though I used about a quarter size drop on my hands and then rubbed it in.
Now I am finding cold water to be the best aftershave....sometimes followed by aloe.
I use the same amount of AS not matter what brand it is. I use probably about a teaspoon to begin with; if it is not enough to coat my face and neck (the areas that were just shaved) I may use a little more.
No steadfast rules here. I say just apply to your own preference.
Thanks for the replies. I think I'll just go with about as much as I do the others, applied to wet palms, then applied to face (with aplomb, of course). If that's too much, I'll scale it back the next time.
The other day, I think I may have used to much... The scent never faded and every where I turned I smelled it. The old lady that sat behind us in church, I think she started gasping for air when I walked in.
I think that's how much I like to use... enough to make old women gasp in church.

One thing's for sure, there is no middle of the road with Lilac Vegetal. You'll either love it or hate it. Don't judge it by the smell in the bottle. Once applied to the skin and allowed a brief dry down, it smells quite nice. I'm out of it at the moment but keep thinking it would match quite well with TOBS Eton College. The smell, as best as I can describe it is kind of a powdery, flowery kind of affair but not overly sweet and very subtleQuote:

I love the original Clubman, got the vanilla scent as well. The original is just too strong for me though. After i got my bottle, I got a few of those little 1 oz. pump spray bottles and put it in one of them. When I'm ready to use it, I just wet my hands in the sink and pump out two sprays on one hand. Rub my hands together and apply.
You still get some of the burn and it dilutes it down so it's not too strong. Really, I shave my head too and two pumps covers my bald head and my face just perfect.
I put just barely enough to get the shaved area wet.

The Special Reserve is strong to me. The other scents--not so much
LOVE the smell of Clubman original, though I don't use it myself as I'll smell butch rofl.
I got some for my hubby though and we both like it a great deal, I am currently attempting to get him to pick up either a DE or a Strait lol, will see :p
I initially started out using it as a splash after a shave, but man my already dry skin would NOT tolerate that at all. So...I started applying it like a cologne, a dab or two behind the ears and maybe a bit along the collar area and presto good smelliness lol.
As Red said I been using Pinaud Clubman original for quite a while, it reminds me a bit of Brute but has an even better scent and throughout the day I catch whiffs of it and pick up diff little smells here and there...anyone ever catch the scent on sandalwood in there? It smells like sandalwood to me, but likely is one of the moss' or whatever.
I DO have ONE cologne that I am REALLY wanting but atm cannot afford, and that is Trumpers Eucris that stuff smells SO darn good. I got a sampler of it through an order at Shave Nation and wow I love it, saving it and using it sparingly until I can nab a bottle later on.

Not too much--just enough to wet my face evenly or every floor of every building I spend any time in that day will smell (very!) strongly of an old barbershop! Vehicles will smell like one for longer... :rofl2:
