any vintage aftershave users?

I was hanging out at my uncles looking at all his old barbers paraphenilia when we noticed a box full of his hair tonics. after looking at it a couple minutes I noticed two bottes of hai karate (one regular and one iced hai karate), then a couple bottles of roman brio (one aftershave and one cologne), and finaly I noticed a pair of bottles of jade east. I looked up the jade east and roman brio since I already knew they stoped making the hai karate. jade east is the only one they still make. I have thought aout looking for one perticular brand I used to like called russian leather and when he offered me the hai karate I went ahead and took it. this got me to wondering if anyone else likes vintage aftershaves.

That's funny, another member recently got his hands on a vintage bottle of Hai Karate, through e-bay IIRC. I've never smelled it, but I'm curious now.... if only it wasn't in such short supply...:hmmm:

I personally don't have any true vintage scents, as in bottles from the past. Of course there's always the old standbys still in production - Old Spice, English Leather, Jade East - that's about as close as I get. For me there are still many new AS's out there to try rather than scouring the earth for rare bottles that have a price to match.

I use Vintage Old Spice and vintage English Leather. To me Vintage Old Spice smells better than the new. The English Leather smells the same but I Really like the vintage English Leather AS Lotion.

after reading that I just checked ebay I had no idea the stuff was selling that high and I'm pretty sure my uncle didn't either since he probably got it when it was still in production....I'm going to have to let him know tomorrow and see if he'll take it back....I can still get the old standbys you mentioned anyway.

Gentlemen:

I was introduced to English Leather in the early 1960s and have not been without it since — except in Vietnam when I wore no aftershave. In addition to that, Pinaud's traditional Clubman has been my friend. I'm out of Pashana, although I might lay off it for a while. Old Spice, Jade East and some of the other old-timers I retired after the first bottle way back in the XIV Century.

My two olde worlde scents are Trumpers Spanish Leather and Penhaligons Endymion.

I really like both of these I must admit...!

Aqua Velva is another one that's been around forever (70+ years). It's got a permanent spot in my rotation. Wearing some today, as a matter of fact

i've been wearing old spice since i was about 5... don't think i've even been without a bottle.. other classics in my rotation are aqua velva, pinaud, pashana, and english leather.. not sure what others should belong in my rotation.

I like Old Spice and use the following:
2010 Old Spice Classic Aftershave
1968 Old Spice Aftershave
1968 Old Spice Cologne
1962 Old Spice Aftershave
1962 Old Spice Talcum Powder

The vintage aftershaves and colognes have a richer, more complex scent. I do not find any degradation in the vintage scents.

perhaps good aftershaves and colognes ages like wine?

I might have to get a new bottle of jade east to compare to the vintage one that I have.

i sometimes use an old yardley as. i have a bunch of vintage edt's but of the aftershaves it's just the yardley. it works very well.

I use Penhaligons English Fern, Opus 1870 and Endymion.
I believe that the English Fern is the only one of these that is actually vintage scent (about 100 years old), but the other two are based on the same principles.

my normal rotation is
old spice
hai karate
aqua velva
i like the old smelling stuff, i just need to get me a bottle of old old spice

I haven't been called vintage before; I do use aftershave though.

I use Pinaud Clubman regularly..probably my favorite scent even compared to some of the much higher priced brands out there.

I came across some Booster made in Canada since 1920's. It smells just like a barbershop. Feels pretty good. I also got an aftershave bump jell by Woody's. When you put it on after a shave it feels like Kevin Did in Home Alone, but after that it feels incredible, like your face has never been fresher or cleaner.

I use a number of old or vintage brands--mostly colognes. Creed (Green Irish Tweed and Tabarome) as well as Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet.

Twi winds, is my weakness, my grandmother gave me her late fathers stash of it last july and i gotta say i love it, he has the old avon cars and stuff and there is aftershave and coloughn. I love both of them and now im the only 15 yr old that smells like a 70 yr old in the area, I love being diffrent.

This may be the case with Old Spice, but I can't say the same for Aqua Velva. I found an old bottle that had lost its color completely. The blue tint was gone, it just looked like water. I opened it and immediately tossed it. The smell was very strong and just as unpleasant.

Aqua velva is a tricky one leadduck cause they did mess with the formula of it about the late 70s and early 80's. Which caused it go from a deep rich blue to a very teal blue color. Later I bellieve in the early 90's but maybe later they went back to original formula. So the bottle you got might of been from the changed formula era.

And to the original post I am a Aqua Velva man

I started using Old and Brut in the glass bottle as a teenager in the late sixties. Still use them to this day. Just don't use it by the bottle the way I did as a teenager.

Lately I've been using 70's era Avon spice as. Comes in a cool Indian chief head bottle.

You know I may have come across a crazy amount of old school aftershave.....I will be getting it soon. I know there are bottles of Avon in it and it is a huge box of old bottles with orignal boxes and so forth. I maybe doing good on this....lol

I am a hard-core Bay Rum man. Either Pinaud, Lucky Tiger, or my favorite, Dominican. I also use Pinaud Lime Sec, Special Reserve, Lustray, and Classic Vanilla.

I consider myself to be a Renaissance Man, rather than 'vintage'.

I came across a box full of Avon, Wild Country, Oland, Spicy, and of course Leather, in the original bottles and boxes. There are probably a few others in there as well. Smell quite good and masculine. What is known of these smells? These bottles are quite old, probably 30 years old or more. Not for sure though. I will look into soon.

I don't know about the others, but the spicy is in my rotation. I found that it works well with Proraso/Omega, as it seems to have a hint of eucalyptus in it. Let us know how you like the others.

I kinda like the Wild Country from what I have smelt but, I havn't tried them yet.....my wife is not a fan of older aftershave smells....Like she doesn't like Old Spice or my Booster I have.
But I guess I don't have to were it all the time right...lol.
