I might be beating a dead horse here, as I am new. Has anyone else grown to love that stinging sensation of applying some good aftershave after a cold rinse and a hot shave? I just bought some Dominican Bay Rum, it has a nice scent and a good sting too it, although I wish the scent was a little heavier but over all I enjoy using it, post shave.
Yes, I too enjoy a good sting, but even better is the cooling sensation after. :)
Yup, I've always liked the sensation of alcohol on a cut/graze. However, when I'm applying aftershave I have a 'job well done' feeling when I don't get any stinging. So it's win-win. :)
Ummm like Matt I think the sting is a good gage on how well I am doing. I prefer less sting. In fact the only sting I enjoy would be the faint barely there sting. Now let's talk real enjoyment like a splinter under the finger nail or metal chip in the palm of you hand that you can't get out. :D
I like the sting, the faster it goes away the better my technique is getting.

Interesting, I never thought of the sting as a measurement of how good the shave was! I will have to pay attention to that in the future...
If you like a good sting, try some Clubman Pinaud, that will definitey give you some feedback on how your shaves are progressing. It's an eye-opener! It's a must have for your collection of AS's.

It's like Listerene. If it doesn't burn like hell, how can it possibly be doing you any good?
I always think of that one commercial where it shows an old man applying after shave and he says something like "If it doesn't sting, it's not any good!"
If you really like the sting then try some of Pinaud's Virgin Island Bay Rum. It doesn't matter what you shave with it, it still stings!!
Well, I guess I'm guilty of liking it too. Can't really explain why, maybe 'cause it feels so good and cool afterwards?? Kinda like an extra reward.

So I tried the sample pack of Whisker Whiskey from a company called the Holy Black....... WOW it was like pouring gasoline in a gun shot wound...... I was on fire for 3 hours and thats no exaggeration.... I dont think I'll ever let that stuff get near my body again but if you REALLY REALLY Love the burn this stuff will stick with you all day.
I enjoy the sting but here is another question. Besides stinging does anyone experience small cuts starting to bleed again from their AS or balm?
When I first began down the slippery slope that is SR shaving I tried making my own AS/balm. Of course, my face was riddled with small ( and large) cuts and razor burn those first few weeks. I think I used to much aloe in the mix and wow, did my face light up and burn.
I returned to the mirror that first time after 5 minutes and it looked like I was doing homemade plastic surgery, blood weeping from all the tiny cuts! It's funny now but a few months back I was thinking I would have to learn to be a masochists to enjoy shaving! My recipe is better now and my balm is very enjoyable, burns but soothes and finishes cool.
Since I hadn't bought any shaving stuff for ages, I took your advice and got a bottle of this, which I've just tried. Ow ow ow ow ow!Quote:

Yup, love it. I always make sure my aftershaves have alcohol in it now. Makes me feel like I did a good job. :)
I wouldn't say I like the sting, but it's fairly easy to tolerate. I've read over and over again that alcohol is the worst possible thing to put on my face, so I've tried quite a few alcohol-free "soothing, cooling balms". The problem is if it doesn't sting, it doesn't seem to help with any burn, either. In the winter when it's dry around here, sometimes I'll put on some balm at lunch, or after work, but right after a shave, I'll take the after-shave with the sting everytime!
By the way, if it gets warm and humid where you are, this is the stuff! It's billed as "air conditioning in a bottle". If you don't splash on some cold water to close the pores first, you actually won't be able to feel your face for a few minutes..........

I like the good medium sting of my homemade Apple cider after shave. It doesn't hit quite as hard as say Aqua Velva but does wake one up quite a bit. I think my next batch I'm going to play with the mixture a bit and see if I can't actually get a little more burn out of it without setting my face on fire.
Those 2 black dots have been there 3 years and the are small pavement gravel. I got them after falling @45mph going downhill on my road bike. Today the itch had almost disappeared except while I am riding over tough tarmac I get this little sting and itch on my palm.Quote:

HOW INTERESTING AND COOL!...I never said anything about how much I enjoy the sting after a good shave, thought I would be the odd-man-out. Now that I know there are others out there who enjoy it as well, I feel better now. Also, I discovered, er rather, concocted an after shave fragrance combo that I will be using and this is: my Rose scented hand cream for a balm layered with Brut after shave splash and the combo is so nice...floral but masculine.

I'm a big fan of alum block. My preference though is to get absolutely no sting at all - telling me I had a great shave. When it does sting though I appreciate how it corrects me for the next shave.
