sensitive skin/feeling - how long after shaving?

Hi all,

after shaving with my straight my skin feels more sensitive (but also more BBS:)) or lets better say the sensitive feeling lasts longer (up to 24h) compared withthe DE.
What is your experience?

It's been said before, but pressure applied to the blade can have a large effect on resulting razor burn.

I have sensitive skin too, and find a straight razor is the best for my skin. If your face is feeling raw or extra sensitive long after shaving you are probably either using too much pressure or shaving with a dulling blade. If your razor has been recently honed you can rule that factor out. Anyway, you might want to examine not only your shaving technique but your preshave prep and post shave routine as well.

The longest that my skin feels tender after a not-so-good shave (perhaps dulling razor) is about 3-4 hours. When I use a sharp razor or a single-edge safety with a new blade, my skin feels refreshed and good for the whole day. When my skin feels a bit raw, I use alum, then rinse it out really well with plenty of cold water, and lastly apply hydrating cream after the aftershave.

This made my skin feel good even after the occasional razor burn I got when I was a beginner.

In the winter, my face is more sensitive. I get real bad dry skin so, I use a moisturizer after shaving and it seems to help. Now, the warmer months I have no problems.

Mine is only ever sensitive until I put aftershave on.

I use alum on the shaves where my face feels like there is going to be irritation or there is irritation, then my aftershave.

I get this too. Good shaving software is important but as others have said, a freshly-honed blade and getting the pressure to be applied correct are also important.

all of the above. I use raw coco butter, I just pass it over the face slowly as it is hard until your face warmth starts to soften it. like a roll on. it works great for me.

I don't have this but have sensitive skin that gets worst in the winter.

What has been said about pressure and sharp blade are two big factors.

I have found what soap I use can play a role in this. Also what aftershave products I use. If I use just a balm my face doesn't feel very refreshed or healed. But if I use an alcohol based as first then a balm it does.

Another thing to try is to shower after your shave.

I had this problem with skin burn after shaving my technique improving has helped lots. I also seem to get less razor burn when I use witch hazel after shaving. One other thing if I get a shave with lots if razor burn I will not shave for two days to give my face a chance to heal.

When I was shaving with a five-bladed wonder, I had to make sure that I wouldn't be going out for at least two hours afterwards; the redness was that bad. Needless to say, I was a night shaver.

After I made the switch to a straight razor, yeah, it was red after the first shave (read: the FIRST shave with a SR - ever), but it was gone in about ten minutes. The next day, five minutes. I don't learn that fast, so it must be the single blade - my skin seems to love it. A quick slap of Trumper's skin food and I feel fantastic afterwards.

I wanna shave right now, but I'm still smooth. What's happening to me....
