I just got some proraso white pre shave because I thought the oatmeal would be good for my face during the winter months, however it seems that whenever I use it I get what seems like a chemical burn on my face. I was just wondering if this happens to anybody else? if it makes any difference, I used prorasso green over it for my lather.
The same thing happened to me my first couple of shaves using this stuff. After that I haven't had an issue. How long have you been using it? I would say if it continues to happen to stop using it because your skin may have some reaction to an ingredient. Certain high spf sunscreens make my skin break out in to a rash so if it doesn't agree with you don't use it anymore. Hope this helps.

I got on with the green Proraso pre shave, but really hated the white stuff, it seemed to affect my lather. I got more irritation following the shave than usual. I put this down to lack of glide, due to the lather killer.
TBH i have stopped with the pre shaves as I have got better with a straight. I just don't see they do anymore than a great lather does.
I've had this reaction a couple of times in the past particularly when they re-formulated it with all natural ingredients. No idea what caused it had some thoughts it may have been a sandalwood after shave balm that I used to finish the shave or Proraso's aftershave balm for razor burn in the grey plastic bottle. Still using the sandalwood but ditched the razor burn aftershave balm. I'm also using the green label Proraso aftershave balm most days with no ill effects.Quote:

I found the Proraso pre-shave didn't really improve the shave at all, if anything for me, it degraded the shave.
I'm down to a cold water shave, splash of cold water, face lather, shave and done.
But experimenting is a lot of the fun, now, occasionally, after a shave, if my skin is somewhat dry due to the winter, I'll put some pre / post Proraso on and it's nice.
Try everything, it's fun and a good way to find out what you like!
I do know what I like, I figured that out several years ago (just because I am new here doesn't mean I am new to shaving), I just was trying a new product and it wasnt working well for me. As you say experimenting is part of the fun. But it is funny that you mention using it post shave, I actually just tried that This morning for giggles and it felt wonderfull during use, and only the slightest hint of irritation I think you might be on to something there, ill be doing further experimentation in that direction. No. Mostly because no, and also because silvertips can be done many different ways. I have a lower loft TGN grade A knot that is just as soft as my boar (boar hairs will split and soften with use), with just as much backbone.Quote:

In regards to the Proraso pre/post cream, I have the white that was one my first purchases. Back then, I used it quite frequently, however, I have not used it in a very long time.
Like most who have used this, I have found that, over time, a good lather, from a quality soap or cream, applied on a properly wet face works just fine.
I think a boar brush has a stiffer back bone and gives a good but gentle facial scrub / massage when face lathering. Don't get me wrong I love the soft feel of my silvertip but for after work clean up or when your feeling greasy, the combination of Boar and Arko gives a really fresh feeling thats hard to beat.Quote:

That's the stuff I had...the Proraso Green pre / post shave...used to make my eyes water. For me, I think the Proraso Green, the soap and pre/post shave stuff is their worst product. For the pre/post shave stuff, the white is much better as far as I'm concerned...YMMV.Quote:

Haha...not allergic to it, it's just a tad overpowering for me....YMMV...but the Red is my favorite, completely awesome in my opinion, and the Blue is next in my list with the White standing right beside it - Proraso is hard to beat as a quality soap and it's price, it will always be in my favorite soap list.Quote:
