I'm using the VDH set as well (promised the wife Id wait to get more stuff) and I usually soak the soap and brush in hot water while I shower. Dump the water and give the brush a few shakes then it's HELLOOOO rich, warm lather!

Pump and grind. Sometimes people forget the pump - I've found it helps.
James.
I double pump, grind then let the lather simmer down some, then some slow swirls followed by 5 quick pumps. By this time the lather is essentially engineered for success.
IMHO, VDH is garbage. Life's to short to use weak soaps and thankfully there are options. I'm a strong advocate for using Stirling Soap. Plenty slick and easy to whip. Full pucks are a great deal and sample puck are only 2 buck, yielding about 6 or7 shaves! Lots of variety to find out what works for you...

Maybe it is a semantic thing...your mistake is using the word 'building.' It's not like building the Pyramids or the Empire State Building...it's making a little circle with your hand.
