Make your own pre-shave balm

Hey, I am the creator of Bald Frog Soap and I also make a pre-shave balm that kicks butt. Here's how you do it:

In a double boiler (a metal bowl that is larger than the pot you will use is placed on top of about 1 cup boiling water on your stove)
put about 2/3 cup of Noxzema facial cleaner or the generic equivalent I have used both and the work equally well.
To this add 1 Tbsp. of coconut oil, 1 Tbsp. of grape seed oil and melt down and stir. I then add 2 Tbsps. of a tea tree based hair conditioner, stir in until blended well.
I add about 1/4 teaspoon of eucalyptus oil to the balm for a cooling sensation. If you want you can add a little peppermint oil at this stage or another scent that will not conflict with the eucalyptus base scent, lime is awesome!!!
After thoroughly stirring in your double boiler pour into a resealable container of your choice and put immediately in the refrigerator.
After about 30 minutes it will be cool and ready to use.
I hot towel my face and then apply a dot of this balm to my neck, and each cheek. This amount you made will last a very long time!
I them go about mixing up my lather and stropping my straight razor. After about 3 minutes apply lather and enjoy one of the smoother shaves
you will have.

do you wash the balm off before lathering? i'm concerned about it building up on my brush.

You lather right over the balm, with the small amount you use it will not effect you brush at all. You put just a dot on your neck and cheeks right after the hot towel.

is there a particular brand of tea tree conditioner ? i checked the dollar store and didn't see anything. also is the eucalyptus necessary if i can't find it?

The essential oils are amazing - eucalyptus for example is very good for healing any cuts, although i personally favour lavender since it does the same is also a very good antiseptic.

Not necessarily a homemade item bit blending half a bottle of lavender oil into a large tub of generic aqueous cream makes an inexpensive post-shave face cream that heals nicks and cuts very quickly.

Very interesting I may try this down the road.
