Great pic, thanks for posting it.
Not so long ago people didn't believe that putting petroleum based oil on your skin was bad for you...
Sadly, I kind of like the smell of the old 3 in 1 oil.

I found this a while back and it clearly demonstrates how to apply the oil. The pictures help me a lot at times.
I thought I heard about 25 years ago 3 and 1 was vegetable based??
Use 3 an one all the time for many things,But I would never rub that stuff on my face:(
Looked it up it is petroleum based...
FWIW, I've used "Corrosion Block" -- an anti-rust penetrating oil (mineral oil, not plant-based) -- on my straight razors.
It's worked fine, and hasn't hurt my face. The amount of "3-in-1" on the edge of a razor is so small that I don't think it would be a problem.
Now, if you used 3-in-1 as a pre-shave oil -- that might be a problem.<g>

PS -- I never thought of oiling a DE blade. Since they're all stainless-steel now, I don't think it's needed.
I wouldn't use it on my face, but I use it for my woodworking tools... both for corrosion prevention and as a lube for the plane soles. A tightly rolled rag in a can, saturated with 3-in-1 and I wipe the blade/sole on it before and after use. I need to make one for the shave den now.
These old things are cool!!!
But i'll not use it on my face. :nono:
