I just purchased some Ogallala Bay Rum & Sandalwood and Ogallala Bay Rum, Sage & Cedar Shaving Soap from WestCost Shaving. I haven't seen much info on this soap here, but the reviews I have read seem positive. Any feedback from the community on this soap?
Its on my xmass list, but I haven't tried the soap. The aftershave is fantastic however.
Where did you get your aftershave from, and do they carry the soap? I sorta hated having this shipped from clear accross the country!Quote:

I have the AS and do not like it at all. I do like some Bay Rums however
The AS lasts for hours on end. Sometimes even the next day. The soap is ok, you must really work the lather with the brush.
I have both the shave stick and the puck.
I find it very thirsty and it actually makes my skin a bit irritated ( I assume the sandalwood)
Otherwise, pretty slick, a good shaving soap. I don't use it very often. The scent is really nice and stays a while.

I find the soap has a tendency to dry out very fast on my face and needs more water than usual but the AS is lovely. I love the scent.
I tried some of the AS at the last meet-up I attended. I think the only way to get it is to order online.
For anyone considering purchasing Ogallala, I highly recommend going to their website and NOT eBay, Amazon...or any other site.
The Ogallala site sends a free gift or gifts depending on how much you order. This can be anything from their inventory up to a sampler pack of 1 oz plastic bottles of all they offer (Aftershave and Cologne).
Yes, I'm a huge fan of Ogallala AS. I love their Bay Rum (BR), BR with Lime and Peppercorn, and BR with sage and cedar. I wasn't a fan of the Sandalwood. To me, with that combination, the BR was lost...but to each his own.

I was PIFd a puck of the BR/Sage/Cedar. It is super slick, my shave was good, but the lather was not what I was used to at all. It was thin, and not dense like my others are (razorock, htgam, original p160, etc). I saw a Nick Shaves video with pretty much the same story.
I have the same one. It's currently number two on my favorite soap list. I've been able to get a very good lather with it, but what I'm learning is that each soap has different requirements to get a good lather. I agree that Ogallala soap seems to require a bit more water than most, and send to yield a more creamy lather, and to little water will yield a clumpy looking lather for me.Quote:

I really like the soap and it is a regular in my rotation.
Shave on!
I tried again yesterday and spent more time loading, it helped, but the final lather was still a bit more of a light foam texture than dense, rich, thick lather that I get with other soaps. That said, I still had an excellent shave with it.
Same experience here.
More of an air-y lather, rather than a thick one. Still good, though.
I also found that it matches quite well with the AS.
Ogallala Bay Rum AS did not work for me at all, it was too oily.
