Yup, do the same thing. Stumble outta bed, splash cold water on my face, face lather and shave. Happy to hear it works for someone else too.

I tried cold water, hot water, warm water. Before shower, after shower,etc... Both have their pros and cons. For me it is a matter of personal preference and skin type. Personally I like the feeling of warm water during the shave, and then a final super cold water splash after I'm done. So soothing :)
I think the choice of cold water for shaving individual who is fit and who is not. I personally do not fit.
I prefer a warm water shave to a cold- or hot-water shave. Surprising, since i love a HOT shower (except during the dog days of summer). A hot water shave seems to increase the chance of nicks.
I've tried this after reading all of the comments. All I can say is, it works for me! Tried it with cold water straight out of the tap. Washed face in cold water, applied pre shave oil, lathered up in cold water and got on with the shave. Good 3 pass shave, BBS. Now, usually I suffer from irritation on my neck, just where the beard line starts - always have done, no matter what I use to shave. but not today!!!!
Ill try it without the pre shave oil next time to see if that makes any difference.
Did it in 67-68 when I was in the army and hated it. Tried it recently and still hated it. I don't use steaming hot water, warm is the compromise. After I shave I take a wash clothe and soak it in cold water and apply it to my face for a minute or two. That calms down any irritation with going into cardiac arrest. I found rinsing the razor in cold water helps keep the soap or creme from drying out on the blade and my face.
