Does a pre-shave product change your lather?

Happy New Year all,

I'm beginning to suspect that a pre-shave product adversely affects the quality of my lather. Just for fun, and sometimes for time constraints, I started skipping my usual Proshave step. Proshave is a noxema-like product available on amazon and popular with the Russian barbers here in NYC. What I found is that the lather with my usual soaps and creams was thicker and slicker. And the shave was the same or better.

And I just getting better with technique or is this possible? Whatever you put on the skin has to mix with what's on the brush, right? BTW I'm a face latherer using shavettes.

What are your thoughts?

My New Year's Resolution>>>NO BLOOD. If the shave ain't great I get to do it again tomorrow, right? I want my current styptic to be my last.

I imagine it depends on the product, I use Cremo and sometimes aloe with glycerin. These products soak into my skin quite well and there isn't much left to mix with the lather. I haven't notice they interfere with my lather, they work together to create a great moisturizing effect and a more comfy shave.

I use Noxzema cleansing cream in-between razor passes. I apply my lather directly overtop the Noxzema. I've never experienced a problem.

I use sometimes a shaving oil on my face, one with shave cream(Art of shaving) and one just shave oil, I have skim problems, a lot of in grown hairs, some acne, some white heads and some black heads and very sensitive skin to razor burn and nicks. My best shaves have come from using some type of shaving oil, I also forgot to say my beard also grows in all four directions actually five, north, south, east, and west, and straight out. For pre-shave cleaning I am prescribed by my Doctor Benzoyl Peroxide for cleaning the skin, Clindamycin for ingrown hairs, Hydrocortisone for skin care after shaving. I have never used anything in between a pass with the razor on my skin, with the grain, cross, or against the grain. The oil has done such a great job at both prep the skin and help gliding the blade across the skin safely and with no nicks. Each face is different and some things work on some faces and will not on others. Hope this helps you, myself going from multi-blade to single edge has helped my face and skin try the shaving oil with your shave cream and I think you'll like the results.
