You could try a scuttle.
JIW,
The best way to keep your brush and lather warm is to use a scuttle. Generally, there are two types of scuttles: some are designed to keep the brush warm during the shave, while others are designed also as lather bowls.
For brush warmers, the most effective I have found — and I have used many brands — is the one offered at Straight Razor Designs. For lather makers — again, I have used a big variety — my preferred are Schwarzweisskeramik and Dirty Bird.
I cannot see the morning shave without a scuttle.
I concur... a scuttle is the way to go.
To add another one to the pile, I have a Georgetown Pottery G12. Nice little one piece scuttle that keeps my lather warm throughout my shave.
I love scuttled and the feel of warm lather on the face. My favorite is Georgetown Pottery model G12. Nice size, not to small and not to big to get in the way.
If you don't have a scuttle, for now you could fill the bottom of the sink with hot water & submerge a bowl half way in it for your lather. I'd recommend ordering one though. :p
The scuttle is my new favorite recent change in my routine, it just seems to add to the robustness of the lather, love the warmth of the lather, the control you have over it, and the fact it adds some precious minutes to the shave. I had a scuttle for over a year, and only used it occasionally, now it's an absolute essential part of my shave, of course I recently broke my scuttle, so today when my new one arrived from the Classic Edge, I was reminded how nice it was. I used XPEC Original today, and for me personally, it really brings all the best characteristics out of the soap. If you enjoy various soaps as much as I do, a scuttle or bowl lathering seems essential to really bring it to life in my opinion...of course YMMV.
Also, for me, it has to have the spout to hold the brush to properly hydrate the brush and keep it warm....:)
+1 to the scuttle being part of my at home ritual.
Bought the one from Classic Edge over a year ago with the large spout that looks a bit like a tea pot and also soak the brush in there.
Turned up the gas water heater top temp to give me an extra few degrees from the tap and it's just perfect indulgence against your face.
Cheers
I think I need to get one of these
I leave my cream/soap a little drier when loading. I then cover my face in hot water right before applying the lather to my face. As I work it up on my face, I add droplets of HOT water to the brush. Much cheaper option for a warm feel :D
I have the G20 from Georgetown Pottery. It's great; it holds a ton of hot water, so I warm it initially, dump, then fill again with hot water before I shower, while also soaking my brush in the bowl. Everything is still nice and warm after my shower, and my brush is ready to go.
I have some sort of tin thing, resembles a cup with a handle, that I soak my brush in hot water while I'm showering. When I get out I empty the old water and use just the water on the brush to lather with. My face doesn't like piping hot water. I find this works well for me. As I make a second pass the temp gets cooler, which for me is better. If the temp outside drops to -30 or so, I use warmer water. That's what works for me. My cup doesn't hold temp well, if that's something you like/need depending on your face...then look for it, but they are worth it IMO.
Happy shaves man!

I have recently gone to just luke warm water on my face before the shave but I really like my lather warm and have had three different skuttles. My current choice is a Dirty Bird. Would not enjoy the shave as much without a skuttle to use, always part of my daily routine.
Just use cold water and face lather.
I'm also in the market for a scuttle. the problem I'm running into is they are very expensive
Take a look at the Dirty Bird Pottery, too
I just fill a bowl with hot water and set a smaller bowl inside it. Cheap and warm. :)
Here are a couple of examples.

A scuttle and then get some soap that is in the tube as I call it! Great hot shaves are had by a scuttle! It is like a treat that you do for yourself only about once a week so the pleasure is never old!!!!
Unlike most I guess I do not have the time to set up my scuttle and heat it properly to shave everyday like that. It is a weekend treat for me. I shave about every other day as is and use the traditional loading a brush with hot water then working up a lather then shaving.
The scuttle to me is a treat for sure. Wished I had the time.......ask me in 8 years when I retire! :)
I run the hot water in the sink while I'm setting up my shave supplies, then fill mine with hot water, drop in the brush to soak, and take a shower. A quick water change before building lather, 30 seconds, will give nice hot lather for the shave.
Maybe use creams during the week, since soaps take more time? At least you'd get to use your scuttle every shave... :)
Just got my Dirty Bird a couple of days ago and love it.
