Do you have a different (less sticky) pre-shave to recommend? I definitely need something that will allow the razor to not get stuck...

A good shave soap or cream should really be all that you need. It should give you a lather that will give you the slickeryness, (is that a word), that you are looking for.

If you shower before you shave rub some conditioner on your face and let it sit for a minute before you rinse as you would with conditioner in your hair. Works wonders on moisturizing your whiskers and face and all you need is a good shaving soap or cream.
I'm sure this isn't cutting-edge information & in some thread, somewhere, someone else has posted this but apart from the focus on Secret Shave and the mention of other products, pre-post or G.P. skin care, Olive Oil! Olive oil is rich in antioxidants...really good for the skin with the issues of general aging, nourishing, rejuvenates and protects the skin. It's rich in vitamin E and A, helps to prolong the condition of your skin, hydrates, maintains elasticity/softness. Last, I understand it helps skin cells to regenerate which is a plus after scraping quite a few of them off with a straight.
I'm one of those guys that spends money, (often, too much), on the stuff I can't make, (razors, brushes, good shave soaps), while being a minimalist on other things, which, in this case equals and likely exceeds the qualities of the commercial, scents products. To each their own, just throwing it out there. Besides, buy a bottle of extra-virgin, fill a small bottle for the bathroom and put the remainder in the kitchen or better yet, rip off your wife's pantry.
