For me I have always liked simple old fashioned Noxema cream rubbed into the beard before I get outta the shower, then straight to a shave routine...
I let some lather sit for a while, seems to soften my beard pretty well
The noxema is a good pre shave , I,ve said it before , same ingredients as Proraso pre/post cream and a lot cheaper, works with my steel wire beard. Tc
Are we talking about a product to rub into a beard, to keep it soft for your wife? Or are we talking about something to soften whiskers, other than taking a shower?
I think a little off topic. but when I read this thread I thought of the hair I left on my face such as my goatee. Would this work on semi permanent hair? :)
Porcupine quills are hollow and pull out better if you clip the end off first as it brakes the vacuum which is what helps keep them in or work deeper.
laser hair removal is the best beard softener. Cant get softer than nothin
I have been using Noxema for a year. It does a great job softening the whiskers pre-shave and also keeps my skin hydrated. I have not used Nivea since I started the Noxema. My first jar lasted 7 months.

I use a small towel with hot tap water and hold against face for a couple minutes. I read some place hair/beards hydrate in about four minutes. Sometimes I do this with a pre-shave oil/cream applied and have gone so far as to do it again with the shaving lather applied.
I've never seen a porcupine in Australia, but if one of the little buggers ever shows it pointy face around here I'll be all over it now. Learning every dayQuote:

I have Noxema and Proraso and prefer the menthol smell for pre-shave. With that said I just had a shower this morning and got just as good a shave as when using those. For me some of the extra prep is just for the journey rather than the outcome....
