I do love my Witch Hazel and my various aftershaves. I also enjoy trying the different soaps, and have a few brushes.

Best shave for me comes from thoroughly degreasing my face .
I don't know how to do that with cold water in a comfortable way.
Anyone suffering razor burn should also check reaction to soap or heavy pressure or bad angle.
Oil mats down the hair cuticles. Removing the oil fuffs up the hair lifting the cuticles making for an easier cut.
This is where the motto on some razors come from. "You lather well & I'll shave well."
I guess if you take the time to face lather that should pretty much degrease your face/lift the whiskers and bowl lathering not so much as you are just painting a coat of lather on.
