I'm new to SR, so I'm trying new things... I recently purchased the Proraso Menthol Preshave... it seems like it looks, feels, and smells almost exactly like Noxema. Can anyone tell me what the difference is? I like the idea of something designed specifically for shaving. Maybe more moisturizing or something? (It seems Noxema would be much cheaper!)
I just purchased some myself and I am excited to try it out. It certainly does seem a lot like Noxema. I certainly have heard of folks using Noxema as a pre/post shave treatment. I may get some Noxema just to give it a comparison and see what I like better!
I've just about finished my first jar of the Proraso. It works very well, but not any better than the Noxema I had been using before. When this jar is finished, I'm going back to the Noxema.
I've used Noxema for a few years. $6.xx for a jar that lasts about 7 months.
I think I agree! I love the Noxema, and don't see enough difference to justify the $$ difference~
I have used both. Noxema is less expensive, but I prefer the scent of Proraso. They both achieve the same outcome. I try to alternate just to keep things interesting.
A little late to the party.
I have used both. They produce the same effect for me. Every now and then for this reason or that, I shave without, and it is never as smooth or as comfortable. I use Noxema almost always these days because it is so darn available and inexpensive. You can even get it if you live 100 miles past the end of the road.
Have used both the Proraso and the Noxema.
Both seem to work about the same - which is pretty well.
However, both have a little too much menthol for my taste.
For the same price as Noxema, I use Udderly Smooth - a milder scent
Same ingredients . 1/4 the cost, a no brainier. Tc
Pictures or exact name of the Noxema product that you guys are using??
I shave before showering and use a Noxema something or other as a face soap in the shower. It's in a pump bottle. Lasts a long time. You can feel it if you have any slight weepers :)
Difference for me has to do with the presence of ammonium hydroxide in the formulation of Noxzema, whereas Proraso does not have this. The North American Noxzema formulation, and all its big-box generic variants, allows for an ammonia gas release direct into the nostrils. Not all that fun to experience, prior to the shave, which I have.
You may have an allergy to noxema, but to the millions of people using it everyday, it's been a staple for longer than I've been on the earth. Tc
I like the Proraso, but not when I face lather. I find if a face lather I scrub it off and get very little benefit. Unfortunately I face lather most of the time.
The best for me is a quick smear of silicone shaving oil. It'll still be there after the shave as well.
