I use it to make my own shaving cream. I use a little of this and that, so don't ask for a recipe. I'll try; Shavings off a bar of good smelling soap, Glycerin, beeswax (small amount) and some olive oil. Too much beeswax and it won't foam. Put it all in a big soup cup and melt it slow in the micro or a hot plate. Stir in your Glycerin/olive oil and let cool.
I haven't bought any shaving cream in years.
Tips- Save your small pieces of good smelling soap to use.
For a pre shave only- I've never tried that
razorman,
If you use neat glycerin on your skin & whiskers as a pre-shave, it will try and remove the moisture from them as it is a very hygroscopic compound !
Try it on a patch of whiskers, and it will make them feel 'scrunchier'.
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
You could use it, but you'd really be better off using olive oil, baby oil, sunflower oil, castor, or a combination in lieu of a store bought pre shave oil. Glycerin is great for adding to soap, to make uber lather.
Oils on the other hand, have a cumulative effect, meaning the more you use them, the better they work.
I've used straight glycerin as a preshave for quite a while and like it a lot. Unlike most oils, it doesn't leave the sticky greasy sludge all over the sink, brushes, mugs and razors. I don't know if it makes anything any slicker but seems to give the desired scrunchiness to my whiskers as well as providing what kind of feels like a protective layer to my skin.
I do not use straight glycerin but swear by Mr. Glo (i.e., Musgo Real Glyce Lime Oil Soap) as a pre-shave.
too sticky for me but i suppose it was a cheap bottle...maybe not the best quality,,mixed with a couple drops water in hand does turn slick though...try it and let us know if it helps
