Love straight shaving but the only treatment i've used so far is Avalon Organics Lavender shave cream that i bought off the shelf at Whole Foods. I just squeeze a little out, rub it on my face with my fingers and start shaving. I would like to try a Castle Forbes product but no idea where to start.
I just got the Castle Forbes Lime. I love it but it's really expensive. I probably wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't from money received for a birthday. I don't know if it's worth it but to each his own. Smells great.
I looked at these creams, thing is they look smaller than my tubs of Taylors and Trumpers...and cost just as much as Truefitt that I have. I got the Truefitt West Indies Limes cause I had the extra money from a land and real estate sale I made while back, and the tub is just as big and full as Trumpers usually is.
I don't see paying that kind of money for it if you get less, if it is less for more then it is truly what I call either a rip off or a money pit for rick folk lol.
Course I know nothing of the quality, but I don't think it would be worth it even if it had gold flakes in it.
+1 on the castle forbes lime, thats a really great cream. Its not the cheapest stuff but it is very good..! :)
Castle Forbes is absloutely fantastic, and is worth the money. It is my second favorite (many will rank it as their #1 all time favorite) and will last a long time.
No need to make this more difficult than it should be, just pick one of their scents that tickles your fancy and order it. :) Performance is consistant across the scents, so no worries there.
Really...hum well looking at it through a monitor doesn't do much for it I guess:aargh:, figuring I might be wrong and to that end would one day have to try it myself in the end and see. Likely be a while since I spent a boat load of cash on lots of needed things and so now am broke, will see the next time round :)
Based on my estimated consumption, Castle Forbes cream costs me about $0.30 per day. For that I get to use one of the very best shave creams available. On a unit cost basis it is fairly pricey, but in the grand scheme of things it's a luxury I have no problem justifying.
I just re-read the op....you're going to need a brush with CF. I have tried to lather a regular cream with my fingers. It works.....sort of....a little bit.
Big +1, Castle Forbes is worth it. The lime is my favorite. It's a top notch shave cream. It's worth it to spoil yourself once in a while. It's a heavy dense cream, a little goes a long way. You don't need much of it. A tub will last you for some time....Like Bill said, You'll need a brush and bowl/mug/scuttle to use Castle Forbes properly....

yes, thanks. i'm ordering a black badger knot from the golden nib and going to install it into a handle of my own design. Long handles seem to make sense to me after seeing this guy (from Denmark on youtube) show off his custom brush. He's on the forum here, just don't know his username. It is pricey but if you are so inclined go for it. If you can't make good lather with C&F, it is the water your using or you are using a stick to lather with. :rofl2: In that regard it is a very good cream to start with because it is almost foolproof. Just use a little though.

I can tell you Ryan82's No 1 Shave Cream is Domenico Caraceni 1913, Mine Too...Then, Xpec, Then Castle Forbes.....
++1 on the previous comments and advice about Castle Forbes. It may cost more than other "budget" shaving creams but it is well worth it.Quote:

They used to send out free samples of Castle Forbes Shave Creams and the AS balms.
Not sure if they still do, but you can check. I don't think the website is fully operational, but you can call them or email....

Where mgiht I find all of Castle Forbes' scents and products? I looked at a few sights I most frequent and see only 3 scents, lavender, sandalwood and limes.
My absolute favorite cream is Taylors of old Bond Street' Sandalwood, the scent is a good morning eye opener and it's warm and dose excellent. Their Almond is fantastic as well, love Taylors for the quality and the strong yet lovely and not overpowering scents.
I am trying out Truefitts west indies limes, and it's not bad at all, though I have yet to master lathering it properly as it is a softer cream and I think I gather too much and end up with either a dry lather or buried in lather to my nose rofl
(((oops...there are some brands in there I never heard of my bad lol, thought they were Castle scents rofl. I'll have to look those up as well.)))

I like Castle Forbes Lime Essential Oil shaving cream a lot. It was my first shaving product outside of the canned shaving cream one can buy from any supermarket or grocery store in the States. A little bit goes a long way as has been mentioned. Personally, it provides MUCH better value for money when compared to Truefitt and Hill, in my opinion. If you cannot fathom the initial high cost, I would just go with Taylor of Old Bond street, which provides a very good value for money in a high-end shaving product.
A bit off topic, but I wish that vendors could find someway to lower shipping costs on the shaving consumables. That extra $5 to $7 dollars really makes buying these products a bit of a pain in my opinion. Since we are dealing with sturdy plastic tubs, just put them in a padded envelope and send them using a slower service; I can be patient. Just my two-cents.
