Has anyone experimented with some type of Aloe Vera extract in their preshave oils? If so, how was the experience and what exactly did you use? I'm thinking of adding a pure aloe gel to my oil but not sure if this would be correct.
I have really sensitive skin (especially directly to the left of the adams apple since the hair grows all crazy there) and am interested in finding something that would minimize irritation and/or combat it as it comes up.
Anyone?
aloe's good for healing, so I woulld think it would be a post shave treatment rather than preshave. But it wouldn't hurt to put it in with your preshave oils, won't do any harm at all. It might have some cushioning/lubricating properties.
For sensitive skin, prep your face with hair conditioner for 10-15mins (reread your post... you have preshave oil, hair conditioner is always another alternative if you feel that oils aren't doing it for you) preshave and use a soap that is very moisturising like shea butter/goats milk/lanolin soaps, all ingredients to look out for. Mitchell's wool fat is very good for sensitive skin, mild scent and very moisturising... and cheap too. Then get a bottle of glycerin (any pharmacist should sell it) and add it to your lather - I usually add it after I've made my lather but try putting it in before as well, it might work better for you. and shave
I usually keep a couple of aloe alive for my shaving needs. These are quite different from the "pure" gel available. I find that it really works best in aftershave like Alex states. try getting your hands on a little cold processed witch hazel, add some aloe and you might find something that works great for an aftershave.
