I thought I'd share this for anyone who might be having problems with building a nice, thick lather.
My shaving mug is an over-sized coffee mug soup bowl. (See photo.) The inside is plain, smooth ceramic, and doesn't offer a lot of texture to help whip up the lather. So I placed a flower-shaped bathtub grip sticker on the inside bottom, and now my lathers are magnificent. At least 3x as thick and luxurious. Life is good.

Here's a photo of the inside of my shaving mug. The flower bathtub sticker is a no-name, grocery store brand, designed to stick on the floor of the bathtub for safe traction. You'll find them in the bathroom accessories section with the shower curtains, plastic shower hooks, shower caddies, etc.

Do they come in a color other than pink:)
The store only had pink, but I seem to recall them sold in a few standard shapes (fish, flowers, circles) and colors (baby blue, pink, white). The funny thing is that when I was making my straight razor storage/display jar (see photo below) I needed a wedding sachet bag, and I could only find them in pink and white. And since I was looking for a splash of color in the jar, I chose the pink. It seems that all the little accessories I use for my straight razor shaving only come in the color pink. Oh, well. At least everything matches. =)

I should tell you that I sold a few brushes to a gentleman on this fora about a year ago, when he used them he had a bowl from his daughter that was unglazed inside for similar results. It worked beautifully, but the bristles wore and broke readily with use. I threw a simple bowl and used it bisque for a while to see what could be done. The results showed that he must have used a lot of pressure, but even with little to no pressure while making lather the abrasive qualities still shortened the life-span of the brush. I don't know if these adhesive grippers would cause the same problem, but you may want to keep that in mind.
I appreciate the advice. I'll keep an eye on the brush for the next year.

Hi CJbianco could you please explain to a newbie like myself what is exactly in that jar with the razors? i presume its something to absorb any moisture. Am i right?

Absolutely, right. The silica packs absorb moisture. You can find them in new shoe boxes and new coat pockets. Any shoe store has hundreds on the stockroom floor waiting to be swept up and thrown away. Just ask for a few, you'll get them. Or you could ask a mother, sister, girlfriend, or wife for a few from their shoe boxes in the closet. And the pull-string bag is called a sachet (spelling?) pouch. You can find them at any craft store. I found mine in the wedding section. Cheap, effective, and it makes a decent display jar.Quote:

I recently bought a ceramic jar, which is really smooth inside. I was contemplating putting something into it as well, but I was going to try marbles. Also, working in a computer warehouse, the hard drives we get in have quite large silica packs in them, so I might grab a few for my shaving draw.
