I just got some Proraso preshave from SRD and I am extremely pleased with the product. The razor now glides across my face, and after two shaves I think that small nicks and cuts hopefully are a thing of the past. Excellent product definitely worth a try. Also, I don't know if it makes a difference, but I use Proraso shave soap, too.

I have used it since day 1 of my journy into traditional wet shaving...I love it so much and will not shave without it. I have a tub of the new formula as well and it is great stuff too! :)

I used some last night. I have the full Proraso green line. Quality gear. Very minty and refreshing. I think it's slicker than my Pacific pre shave oil
Agreed good stuff, WONT shave with out it. I use before and after shower before I shave, gets my wiskers nice and soft.
Great stuff. I used oil before I found Proraso. Gave away the oil.
I never got much out of their pre-shave stuff. I get better results using Bigelow's Menthol Hair Conditioner - same cooling, better glide.
I consider Proraso more of a skin conditioner, rather than a "glide" product. You can't compare it to oil or similar products because I don't think that glide is its intended purpose. But I could be wrong.....Quote:

If I had a put a numeric value, I'd say Proraso Pre improves the comfort level by about 20%. Plus I love the menthol.
So if you were to use a hot towel as part of your pre-shave routine... would you
1) Hot Shower
2) Apply Pre-shave proraso
3) make and apply lather
4) heat and apply towel to face
5) take off towel and apply lather
6) shave
Or is that the wrong sequence?
This is one product i find i use almost every shave just spectacular.
If it works, then its' the right way to do it!!
I would move the proraso pre-shave from step #2 to step #5, just before lathering and shaving. This way works better for me, and also the menthol makes the shave more enjoyable.Quote:

I enjoy Proraso as well. I especially like the cooling sensation & the scent. Old timey barbershop feel. Great product.

I used Castle Forbes It works ok but what it make me change was the price 40 something high is too much. I try Proraso and let me tell you is A # 1. No questions ask, I don't like oils due to the fact it create permanent damage to the brush in the future and is leave the face kind of gloosy. Proraso is what it is.

I notice that Proraso Pre-shave is now offered in both a regular and a "new formula" version.
I haven't tried either one, but I want to give it a go.
What's the difference between the two formulas? Has anyone tried them both? And how did
it work for you?

A friend of mine told me that its the same. In the other hand if you can grab some of the existing old stuff it will be good because in that way you can conpare with the new one.

I love the poraso products they work so well.These are the steps im following.
1.Hot shower
2.Dry face then apply pre shave then rub in some water(feels really minty fresh)
3.Apply lather then hot towel
4.Repeat
5.Re lather then shave
Poraso pre shave is good (I have the sensitive skin version) however I have recently stopped using it and I think I get better feedback from my razor and a closer shave without it IMO
I used it last night finally since it just showed up in the mail...
I gotta say... it felt really good and I had no issues with the feedback. I did it prior to my hot towel and pre-shave lather though, so perhaps it melted away by the time I actually put the first shave lather on. I want to give it plenty of time to soak into the whiskers though so I dont think I will move it to just before the first shave lather, perhaps a second coat though?
Either way.. big thumbs up! Just wish I was into straight razor shaving and proraso when I was in Florence last year, I would have stopped by their factory and checked them out.
Hey if it made your shave more enjoyable then anything that works is good! I think you right about the order you used it and it melting away I (and I think most but I may be wrong) use it then lather directly on to it
Just re apply after hot towel then lather.Multiple passes just add again then lather up that's what i do feels very nice cool and soothing.
Like I said if it works for you then it's good. For me shower, lather and shave is perfect!
I have used Proraso preshave cream since I started shaving way back when. I have both formulations the mentholated as well as the teatree essential oil; I apply the cream after a hot towel and it helps exfoliate and lubricate my whiskers; I try to pair it with mentholated shaving creams and soaps like Valobra Mentholated, Omega and others. One last word, it does interfere with the lathering of soaps like Cella. HOG
Just tried something a little different turned out surprisingly well i found some shaving oil on sale so i thought id try it out then i used the proraso pre shave aswell lathered shaved and it was minty fresh and the blade glides very well.
So... Played a bit more with it this weekend. Previously I was only applying prior to the hot towel and lather relaxation step.... not after the hot towel. This time I used it prior to the hot towel (still did the lather) and then again after the hot towel. It worked great and felt great! Lovin it!

I will not do without it until days get warmer, because I feel that in that way at least, in greatly improves the final results. Great thing about it is is rinses very nice and quick, which I do with cold water before I lather.
Note that although many are doubtful regarding whether it is a good pre-shave treatment or not, everyone seems to agree that it is a wonderful skin conditioner to use after the shave, to repair the skin. That corroborates my observations.
I've had good experiences with the sensitive skin version. I apply the proraso first then massage it into my whiskers, next I let it set in while I brush my teeth and comb my hair then I apply my lather directly on top of it. This seems to really do the trick. The only problem I've noticed is it seems to react with my lather and make it extra thick, which feels nice but the lather then gets a bit clingy on my razor. I mainly use Proraso to combat skin irritation which it does for me nicely. I haven't really noticed any improvement in the shave quality otherwise.
I don't know what this stuff does but since I started using it I have no nicks closer shavers and softer skin.. Mayb it's my mind playing tricks on me..:shrug:
It's great stuff, I used to use it all the time, it really increases glide, and now I'm not using it my razor does 'stutter' at times. I stopped using it as I wanted a more 'natural' product without Sodium Laurel Sulphates etc. I'm aware Proraso has changed their line-up of creams to be more 'natural'; does anyone know if this 'natural' line-up has extended to the pre-shave?
Can't really tell what's good from what's a bad ingredient. Here is the list of the ingredients for the pre-shave cream, new formulation. I do believe the whole line has been reworked with the same idea : staying attractive by using at least 95% ingredients of natural origin. The logic being the same, the means must have been similar.
I'll let you judge for yourself. On the actual jar is stated no parabens, no silicons, no mineral oils and no something else which I forgot about and is three letters.
