[teen]Shaving without cause beard to become worse?

Hello, i'm 17 years old teenager, i'm used to shave my mustache every week or so, but now i've some hair on the sides and below my lips

I don't want to use the razor because i'm afraid in a month or so my beard becomes like men's (that strong black beard)
i'm kinda small and still have a baby face so a beard will make me look pretty weird

What do you suggest to keep my face clean and not have to worry about facial hair to become thick(i'll want that hair when i'm 20)

I have normal razors and a hair clipper(doesn't remove tiny hairs because the razors have a kinda security distance)

Hmm, well, I'm surprised - googling "shaving makes hair thicker" gets a whole lot of pages which say that hair *doesn't* grow back faster, thicker or darker with shaving. (I had always believed it did).

Here are a couple of examples: snopes, WaPo, some MD.

Your beard will come when Your hormons think it's time for that. Shaving or not shaving will, if at all, have close to no influence on that.

To make sure I'm not telling You rubbish, I would recommend that You, until You're twenty, only shave the right side of Your face. If by then Your left side looks like Micheal Jackson and the right side like Capitain Blackbeard, I'll say "sorry, I was wrong" :)

I shaved for over 20 years and my beard still was not coming in thick. My doctor prescribed a series of hormone injections (for a different reason) and it thickened right up.

There is my experiment and data, conclude what you like;)

Perhaps the reason behind the hair seeming darker etc is due to the fact that shaving will:
1 remove any sun bleached hair, thus making it appear darker
2 put a blunt end on the hair close to the skin so that as it grows out slightly it will stick straight out, causing the coarse feeling
3 can't explain the thicker part unless by shaving you are stimulating the hair folicles in some way much like massaging your scalp (unsure of the scientific backing for this) or just that as we get older our hair naturally gets thicker.

Welcome to SRP. As others have said, it is a biological circumstance. Age and testosterone will determine your beard growth. A man's curse but straight razor shaving turns it into a blessing. Welcome to SRP. :gl:

Age, and hormones.... The shaving doesn't really have an effect. I shaved everyday since I was 15 and my beard didn't start coming in until I was in my late 20's. My supervisor at my job, on the other hand, is about 15 years younger than I am and grows a beard like a viking raider.

i started shaving with a mach 3 when i was 16 or whatever, a de when i was 21 and a straight when i was 22, im 23 now and my facial hair is still just the same as bum fluff.

my brother who is 24 has always used electric shavers and his is much thicker than mine.

not a very scientific test though

Welcome, Sohaib. 'Hope you enjoy the time & learning here. 'Could be a number of benefits from learning the str8 early. Because its the longest lasting shave, you may prolong the time you can shave once or twice/wk instead of daily. Its also a cool discipline for requiring some technique, lack of pressure, keeping your beard prep, stretch & stroke good. I think you'll find some good attitudes here, happy to help w/ questions. A theme you'll hear repeated is that while most guys find shaving an annoying chore - we've found the str8 (and DE for some) to change that dramatically. 'Hope you find some joy while learning.
