Gentlemen-
I was bopping aroung the internet just now putting together my Christmas list for my wife - went to the L'Occitane site and could not find their Vetyver EDT. From what I understand, it was somewhat popular, with a few of the SRP members speaking highly of it. Does anyone know if it has been discontinued?

From what I understand it's discontinued. I was lucky to get an almost full bottle a while ago. It's a nice scent, but Guerlein Vertiver is better IMHO.

I've used both very nice indeed, but the Guerlain vetiver is the classic vetiver scent beautiful EDT and long lasting, one of my only negatives regarding L'Occitane scents and I've owned quite a few and still do they don't last long enough on my skin, in my opinion the best scent they have would be Baux EDT a warm rich intoxicating EDT.
I had to look for myself to see if it was true and it appears so, even at L'Occitane Canada. Well that sucks, even my wife is disappointed. Looks like I'll have to use mine more sparingly now..... :(

Must be some still in the pipeline, bought a bottle of L'Occitane Vetyer a couple of months ago in the Winnipeg store. I guess it is now scrounge around or just go with the Guerlain stuff.

Sorry to hear that L'Occitane has discontinued their Eau du Vetyver; it wasn't my favorite from their men's fragrance line, but it -- along with Eau du Badian and Eau du L'Occitan -- made up the Autumn portion of my "collection"... OTOH, I've always associated Guerlain's Vetiver with Spring and Summer. I can't imagine why L'Occitane would do that; nevertheless, "discontinued" fragrances are legendary... as well as those which are "reformulated".
Discontinued NOOOOOOO!! I love this scent, I'm down to half a bottle, going to Nashville tomorrow to the L'Occitane and hope they have a bottle or two laying around.

Etat Libre d'Orange Fat Electrician (never mind the name this stuff is great)
Thierry Mugler Mugler Cologne (often said to be a ripp off of Creed's Vetiver, but still a good scent)
Creed Original Vetiver (not a fan, but I'll list it for the praise it gets)
Dior Vetiver (the first Dior exclusive to be discontinued, as a result you can pick it up for about $100 if you search around. I find it boring but you might not, it has a coffee note)
Frederic Malle Vetiver Extraordinaire (I'm noting it for the praise it gets, but at this level of simplicity and price you might as well buy real Vetiver oil)
LesNez Turtle Vetiver Front (another that gets much praise, lovely bottle too)
Annick Goutal Vetiver (fleeting but lovely)
Comptoir sud Pacifique L'eau du Gouverneur (Brilliant, but maybe discontinued; still widely available though)
Dior's Eau Savage is often considered vetiver-dominant as well (Dunhill Edition is simmilar, and far superior though discontinued) as is Terre d'Hermes but to me it just smells like Iso e Super and warm rocks
Edit - on the subject of despicable discontinuations Chanel, in an act of pure villainy, has discontinued all the shave products that go with Egoiste. No more Egoiste after shave or shave balm! Still I have a source >.> time to stock up...
Most 'fragrance types' score L'Occitane low when judged on it's true vetiver merits, and on that count there are more faithful varieties out there. But when judged on it's own merits you'll find that it has its fans, like me (and more importantly, my wife :))Quote:

In this case those two votes of confidence are by far the most important. The list I gave you is pretty varied mind, and there's even more out there, and ten times as much if you want earthy or green scents that arn't true vetivers. I'm certain you'll find something.Quote:

Sadly discontinuations are a plague. As are reformulations. You see the same thing occur in the cosmetics industry, and for many of the same reasons. A fragrance in a bottle, and with a box and logo that is five years old will be harder to market and sell than one with a brand new bottle, box and logo, and certain notes come in and out of fashion as well as styles of fragrance. Generally speaking unless a fragrance is a hit (this can be deceptive as not all scents are distributed as widely even within the same house, even in the same range, and something may sell poorly or not even exist in one country but do very well elsewhere) it will tend to be discontinued. It might take six months or a year or two but it's worth your while expecting it to happen. Fragrance houses are producing vast numbers of individual scents nowadays, more than they ever have before. The vast majority of them are actually being made by the same aroma-companies, monsters like Givaudain, and the trend to focus-group products makes for endless repetition of the same themes.Quote:

To illustrate: from 1955 to 1990 Chanel made five masculine scents: Pour Monsieur, Antaeus, Pour Monsieur Cologne Concentree, and Bois Noire which was a re-worked, masculine version of Boise des Iles sold only in Chanel boutiques. It was discontinued and reformulated/re-titled as Egoiste. All of these scents were quite different, totally different styles. Since 1990 they have made nine more scents marketed for men. Almost twice as many in half the time, and more if you include the many scents in their Les Exclusif line which are unisex in character, and worn by men like their cologne, Sycomore, Coromandel, etc. Six of those scents are Allure and its flankers which are all quite similar. Two are flankers of Egoiste. One (Bleu) belongs to the most common style of masculine fragrance being made today.
It's the same story everywhere. In fact Chanel is a tame example compared to many other houses.
+1 on the L'Occitane, longevity of the scents, too short. Also I do not feel much vetyver in the scent. For me Royal vetyver has a great scent, but that is aftershave.Quote:

Another I neglected to mention is Carven Vetiver. It's a wonderful and inexpensive vetiver which gets little attention.
On the subject of one of the discontinued, Vetiver-dominant scents I mentioned; namely Dunhill Edition, which tends to sell for high-prices on Ebay and the like, I have about 200 samples if anyone wants one. It's similar to Dior's Eau Savage, but actually quite superior to the current Eau Savage formulation (being 90's vintage); getting samples of discontinued scents can be very difficult. I'm happy to send a hand-full to anyone who is interested.
Just got me a brand new bottle. If you go into one of the stores and ask they might still have some left, they just aren't putting it on the shelves. I know the store in Nashville still has a few bottles left
I don't know if this is common knowledge, but It looks like you can buy Vetyver EDT from their website (US).
