There are many, but sandalwood essential oil is hard/expensive to get these days, so there is a large range from the synthetic interpretations of it.
Also means you may have to look in the niche fragrances.
I think good ones to try are Tam Dao and i Profumi di Firenze. I quite like the Santa Maria Novella's version but mostly because it's quite a departure from the tradition, well and it's really well made.
I think my favorite though is the vintage Floris Sandalwood, but that's probably next to impossible to find. I very much dislike their current issue Santal.
Note that all of these are really well made blends, i.e. Sandalwood is a prominent note in them, but nevertheless they are much more complex fragrances.
I'll be interested to hear if anyone has tryed The Art of Shaving sandalwood cologne. I love the cream and always tell myself I'll get it one day - only to find something else catch my eye!
I use the Taylor of Old Bond Street sandlewood cologne and like it a lot. The floral fragrences in the blend hits first when splashed on, but as the cologne warms, the sandlewood comes out and lasts for hours. Be sure to get the cologne as it has more essential oils thn the aftershave lotion.
Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Cologne is my favorite.
Now that's hilarious, was just looking exactly at this page:

The Penhalgions Fern is out of stock (have heard some good things about it?? Haven't tried it), and was thinking I'd like to try the Floris soaps (also heard some good things about it, also haven't tried it), but there were quite a few to choose from, thanks JB!
Try it, AoS is petty much in every major US city - it's quite potent and in the cedarwood side of the specter.
I always like to try samples few times before I commit to a full bottle too. To my nose the AoS has a chemical-lab note that I don't like, but after that dissipates it's much better.
I haven't looked at Penhaligon's for few years since I got big bottles of everything theirs I like, but my last memories are that the continuation of english fern may have been under question. I suppose it has Sandalwood in the base, but I never think of it as a Sandalwood scent (it is one of my penhaligon's bottles too).
AOS is overpriced but i love it!!
Dunno about that, you may be applying it incorrectly :) I can't imagine going through a bottle of it in less than 5 years even if that's the only thing I wear. Of course, most likely it is way stronger on my skin than on yours.
Gentlemen,
The Art of Shaving sandalwood cologne is quite strong, as Gugi notes, and requires minimal amount. Also, it is alcohol free.
This thread inspired me to take out the SMN sandalwood from the back and I'm going to be wearing it today.
I must say I really should be wearing it much more often than I do. It's quite unique with its herbal rather than woodsy direction that sandalwoods tend to take. So very florentine, it may even make me go back there this summer!
And while at it I found my collection of SMN samples and after a thorough sniffing throughout the day yesterday I think I am ready to order another bottle that I hadn't picked before :) So many good scents, so little time in one's life, I figure I better enjoy them while I am still on this side of the flowers!!!
I love Truefitt and Hill Sandalwood.
Found a nice sandalwood cologne from The Body Shop called Arber.
I'm also a fan of the Taylor of Old Bond Street version of Sandalwood. It has the slight undertones of a classic vintage fragrance.
However, based on a few of the above responses, it looks like I'll need to sample the Floris Sandalwood!
Not a cologne but a very good aftershave that you wont need any cologne with. Dr.Harris Sandalwood, Amazing stuff.
GEO F. Trumper has a great sandalwood cologne also .
I just wore one of my vintage Floris Sandalwood today and thought I'd post here. It is quite different than the standard Floris Sandaldwood in the 100ml bottle.
The one I wore today a 50ml a bit of hourglass shaped bottle and it is much deeper/softer/rounded, I always thought that it may have been meant more for a feminine scent, but I don't have issues pulling it off (may be my girlish figure and metrosexual clothing help...) It has a bit of a vetiver note as well and is much stronger than the what I consider 'the regular' floris sandalwood in the 100ml. I did double check that it is 'toilet water' and not 'perfume' because concentration can change things dramatically. I think it's just an earlier formulation.
