Question from a rookie
Hello Gents,
I posted this in another form section as well. Just trying to receive as much feedback as possible.
I am new to the wet shaving game; about a month in. While I am loving it, I am having some struggles with irritation under my chin/middle of throat and sometimes on my jaw line. I am currently using a double edge razor and always am using a new blade. Waiting on my straight to be delivered. I bought a sample pack of 200 blades so I have a lot. I feel that it maybe due to me getting a closer shave, but not sure. I have only been having this for about a week. I am using the same soap and after shave, and I feel that I am taking my time, re-lathering, etc.
So long story short I am wondering if a pre-shave oil may help and possibly a different aftershave. I currently do not use a pre-shave oil, and the only after shave that I use is various Clubman scents.
Any suggestions?

The same answer that I gave you in the other section,,,,,,:beer2:

Most times the irritation is from to much pressure or not sharp blades, or the wrong combination of blade and razor . I had to try several blade combos with my DE a few years ago ,, this is all about each individual , prep and stretching ,, still need to do with a DE same as straight, I hate that you have so many blades , get yourself a sampler set of blades and do a controlled test to get the right one ,,, also some blades work better after a few shaves, but I can't help you there I use feathers and I change every shave when I use my DE. Keep at it and then your going to go thru a lot more with a straight , most guys are wanting immediate success , but it's the guy with patience and knowledge who will achieve success at wet shaving

Never tried pre-shave oil, so can't comment on that. One of my boys can't use feather blades, he gets bad burn from them. Maybe stick to 1 or maximum 2 passes until you master your technique a bit better. Also try an A/S balm, non alcohol based, they are a lot more soothing, that helped for me, especially when it came to starting with a straight.
